A genuine question to whoever may read this post: why are posts of situations + a bunch of character names underneath it so popular nowadays? What is it about this vaguer format that appeals to so many people?

(Just to preface—well, post-face, I guess—the question: this is not a critique of that posting style. I’m just really curious as to why it seems to be growing in popularity. Is it simply easier/quicker to write, so writers are doing it more? Is it nicer for the audience to have the freedom to imagine the situation with whomever they’d like? Or is it simply because the number of names beneath a scenario allow for greater interest to reach the post due to attracting people who like different characters? In any case, I’m really interested to hear people’s thoughts on this.)
