Carried Away

For @ariesshower824 Here's some Host working way too late, and Night deciding it's time to head home

Carried Away

Night knew that his mate had the habit of working late enough that it would technically be the next day, and tonight was one of those times. The Demon creator strolled through the nearly empty halls, hearing the last remaining Humans cursing at themselves for losing track of time or having their own Demon partners trying to get them to leave. It was a bit funny hearing his own kind being so attached to their Humans, much like how he was to his own.

Night paused and watched one of The Twins carrying the head Researcher out of his office, giving him an idea of how to handle his workaholic.

"Have a good evening, Mare." Night nodded a bit with his parting words. "And good luck with your pouting Human."

"I'm not pouting!" Mad protested through his pout, arms crossed as he was held over Mare's shoulder.

"Try to get some sleep, Madrick. Work cannot be done if you're too tired." Night advised, chuckling when Mad just continued his pout with a huff.

"See you tomorrow." Mare gave a little salute before walking off. Night just gave another nod and resumed his journey to Host's office. "Owl? It's time to head home." Night said as he stepped into the room, not bothering with knocking.

"Let me finish these last few pages, and we can go." Host ran his fingers over the page he was on.

"Those pages will still be here tomorrow," Night stated, going to Host's desk.

"I'm already in the middle of them, might as well finish before I lose my motivation." Host stated back, pausing when he felt Night's hands on his shoulders.

"You never lose motivation, owl. You're always ready to work." Night hummed and began working on the knots in Host's shoulders, grinning when he saw his mate melting a little.

"I'll only need five minutes." Host was still trying to fight against calling it a day.

"Five minutes turn into twenty, and twenty turns into an hour. I know how this goes."

"I am not that bad."

"You can be." Night leaned over and whispered into Host's ear, deciding to go with the idea he had earlier. "And I am three seconds away from just carrying you home."

"You would never." Host scoffed.

"One." Night nearly purred his count.

"You're being ridiculous."

"Two."

"You're not actually going to do that."

"Three."

"Night!" Host yelped in shock when Night turned his chair and pulled him out of it. "Put me down this instant!" He demanded as he found himself up in Night's arms.

"Nope. I warned you that I would carry you. And I always follow through." Night began heading out of the office. "And everyone else has already gone, so there is no worry about being seen like this."

"That is not my concern."

"Tell that to your blush."

"I am not-!"

"Perhaps we could help ourselves to some of those chocolates I bought this morning. A sweet treat before bed." Night grinned when that offer got Host to stop.

"You're not playing fair." Host huffed, resting his head on Night's shoulder and allowing himself to be carried out of the building with no more resistance.

"I love you too."

Chapter 4: Culmination

Wilford wasn’t sure how to respond to what he had just said. “Dark we don’t know for sure that you're Anti’s next target. It’s not like he’s made any proclamation, why don’t you take a few days off to take your mind off things?” Dark chuckled.

“I wish I could old friend but this company doesn’t run by itself. Besides, I don't exactly trust anyone except you to take over.” Wilford made a big sigh when he heard this. He always knew Dark was stubborn; once he sets his mind on something he sticks with it. It's been this way ever since they were kids.

“Dark-”

“Wilford please, I don't want to talk about this anymore. We have more important matters to deal with.” Dark went back towards his desk as he said this. Wilford looked totally defeated. He was really worried about Dark at this point. He wished for just this once that Dark listened to reason. Dark noticed Wil had a downcast look on his face. Dark internally sighed. He hated to see his friend this way. Maybe he is being a bit much about this.

“How about this? I’ll do one patrol at only one of my factories tonight and that will be it.” Wilford closed his eyes and made a deep exhale through his nose. This was probably the best he was going to get out of Dark, he thought. “Okay, but please do get some more rest and don’t stay out too late.” Dark wasn’t entirely sure he could keep that promise.

“Okay I will. Now then shall we move on to business?” Dark gestured. Wilford gave a smile and went straight to work.

The rest of the day went by smoothly and at five in the evening it was time to go home. Wilford wanted to convince Dark to go to the bar with him, but Dark politely refused and said his goodbyes.

It was eleven at night and Dark was patrolling the halls of his first factory he opened ten years ago, The Gearmore Cogwheel factory. It was a project that took years to construct. Dark had put in his blood, sweat, and tears into this place. Even though it wasn’t as grand as his newer factories are, it still held a place in Dark’s heart. His mind went back to the time when Wilford did the ribbon cutting for the grand opening. It put a smile on his face remembering the old days. Dark took a moment then snapped out of his thoughts to focus on the task at hand.

Now being close to midnight Dark was still at the factory. Nothing was heard or seen in the time he had been there. Wilford was right, maybe he was overthinking this too much. With a heavy sigh he decided to leave but not without one last go around. Absolutely nothing. Feeling satisfied, he made his way out towards the exit. Unbeknownst to him, Anti was hiding in the shadows. He waited for Dark to get some distance away from the building. When Dark was far away enough, Anti put his plan in place.

As Dark was walking towards his car, he all of sudden started to get a sickly feeling as the hairs stood on the back of his neck. He stood in place and looked back at the building. He stared at it for a minute and scoffed. “Yeah right.”

He kept walking until the ear-piercing sound of an explosion filled his ears. He clutched his head, falling to his knees as his ears were filled with a deafening ring. It would take him a few minutes to gather himself and get a clearer picture of the sight before him. The factory was now on fire. Dark ran back to the building to see it engulfed in flames. He just stood there in complete and total shock from what he was seeing. Everything around him had gone silent. He felt numb, thoughts swirling. All of the memories of the past; gone in an instant. Dark didn’t even hear the sirens of the fire department as they arrived to put out the fire. Dark thought he could hear someone talking to him, but he just couldn’t think, he couldn't feel anything. He felt his knees give out and started seeing black spots. His vision started to fade, catching a glimpse of the inferno roaring through the rest of his factory, a tear escaping his eye as the world turned black.

Ink Month 2024 Day 3

Park Bench - Noist

Ink Month 2024 Day 3

Night was a prideful man. Everyone knew this. He had pride in his title and pride in his abilities. But he had the most pride in his time and care when it came to his loved one. He was more than willing to go out of his way to ensure the safety and happiness of his boyfriend. Host’s joy was Night’s greatest source of pride nowadays.

At the current moment, Night and Host appeared in their favorite park during their favorite season. Fall was the best time for the two. It didn’t get too cold, nor did it get too hot, and the wildlife was active, preparing for the long winter so one could find more critters out and about.

Host looped his arm through Night’s, hand holding his upper arm and their shoulders brushing as they began their stroll. Passing through the archway of trees that went down the entire pathway, a loop through the whole park that people would use for their jogs or walks. Mad had measured the length before and let everyone know his results. And while Host could recall what it was, Night never bothered to remember it since all he needed to know was that it took thirty minutes to walk the whole thing. That was thirty uninterrupted minutes with Host because no one would dare try to get a hold of them during their strolls.

Except for Mad.

But Host enjoyed Mad’s company and didn’t annoy Night much. So, Mad would walk with them on rare occasions.

Right now, though, it was just Night and the love of his life.

“The leaves look so lovely this time of year.” Night hummed his comment, eyes glancing at the trees and then to Host, an even lovelier sight.

“That they do.” Host agreed.

“Might I ask you something, my owl?”

“Of course.”

“What do you see right now?” Night knew Host understood the meaning of the question. It was not meant in a literal ‘eye-seeing’ way, but with Host’s abilities and how he’d adjust for either comfort or energy level—going from seeing everything beyond what eyes could process to just allowing himself to be blind. The majority of the time, Host liked relying on everything except his sight but would use enough of his powers to be aware of their surroundings.

“I feel and taste more than I can see.” Host began explaining, using that naturally soothing voice of his that Night could spend an eternity listening to.

“Taste?”

“The air tastes of fall. The subtle coolness, the wetness of fallen leaves left on the grass from the morning dew that’s yet to evaporate. You can also feel that soft breeze and hear the rustling and crunch of the leaves on the path we are stepping on.”

“We take for granted our other senses, don’t we?” Night placed his other hand on top of Host’s.

“We take for granted many things in our lives. But as time goes on, we learn to enjoy the little things life has to offer.

“That we do.” Host chuckled, and then he suddenly paused.

“What is it?”

“The others are here.”

“They’re what?” Night started looking around, tensing up.

“Calm down, Your Highness.” Host tugged on Night’s arm, guiding him where to look. “They’re here playing a game, not to interrupt us.”

“Oh.” Night clicked his tongue a bit when he saw the other Egos out in the middle of the large field.

“Maybe we could extend our stroll and sit on the bench, watch them have their fun.” Host tugged on Night’s arm again, showing that it wasn’t really a suggestion but that it was what he was going to do.

“We’re not beating the grandparents' allegations.” Night chuckled, walking to the bench and sitting on it with Host.

“Not my fault you act like a grumpy old man.” Host rested his head on Night’s shoulder.

“I do not.” Night rolled his eyes with a light smile.

“I thought we were playing football,” Jackie asked with a tilt to his head, seeing the white and black ball in Marvin’s hands.

“We are playing football,” Marvin confirmed.

“That’s a soccer ball.”

“No, it’s a football.”

“So
if we’re playing football then I can-” Jackie bent over enough to throw Marvin over his shoulder, and he started running.

“Jackieboyman, put me down!” Marvin demanded. “Chase Brody! Stop laughing and help me!”

“Me next, me next!” Anti called out with his own laughs.

“Can I sit with you guys?” Mad asked as he neared the bench.

“Of course.” Host answered, moving to be even closer to Night and leaving space for Mad to sit and open his book.

“Now we’re definitely not going to be able to deny being the grandparents.” Night sighed.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” Host moved Night’s arm so they could hold hands.

“Only if I don’t get to have you by my side.” Night kissed Host’s temple.

“Jackie! Put him down!” Dark snapped while Jackie continued running with Marvin, but he now had Anti on his other shoulder.

“Never!” Jackie laughed.
