Character Question 8

Character Question 8

How do they react to praise? How do they react to criticism?

Freddie: he will criticize you right back! He doesn't take negativity towards him well and gets very defensive, lashing out before it starts to hurt. If the criticism comes from someone he respects, he will pick apart whatever is being criticized and improve it tenfold.

He preens under praise. He will flaunt whatever was complimented for days. Don't flatter him too much - his body isn't strong enough to hold up his big head.

Zach: he will immediately try to fix whatever is criticized. He'll drop whatever he's doing and do his best to remove the flaws.

He takes compliments very lightly. He'll say thanks, but it'll take a lot for the intent and sincerity to sink in.

Bella: She will work tirelessly until she improves whatever is criticized. Sleepless nights, days shut up in her room, she won't rest until it's perfect. She'll work until burnout and then won't make anything for weeks since she's so exhausted.

She'll read very deeply into praise. She takes it better than Zach, but only after analyzing the wording, the tone, and the situation on which the praise was given.

I'm going to try and truly make this a dumping ground for my book. I have so many character questions answered, so I might as well start posting them.

If everything goes according to plan, new ones will come out every other day. I'll iron it out eventually.

Character Question 1

What’s their wardrobe like? How do they wear their clothes?

Freddie: His wardrobe mostly consists of polo shirts and dress shorts. He has e a bow tie and a dress shirt for special occasions. He almost always tucks his shirt in. He always wears black sneakers and white socks.

Zach: Basketball shorts and sports jerseys. That's it. He does have a too-small tuxedo from a second cousin's wedding that he was too lazy to throw out, but that's it. He has a few signed jerseys from a couple of sports games. Every day, he throws on the closest, least smelly clothes. It doesn't matter if it matches or not, since he's always in a hurry he sleeps in most days and generally doesn't care. He has a pair of purple and blue striped shorts, so it can end badly. The fluorescent pink shirt doesn't help.

Bella: Her wardrobe has a lot more variation. It's mostly different patterned t-shirts, leggings, and capris shorts. She does have a few skirts and dresses, but they're not really touched for anything but special occasions. She has a modified tool belt that she wears basically every day. It's the one thing she lets herself wear that's out of the ordinary.

Zach: He has hawk wings that stretch out 1 handspan beyond his fingertips. They blue-grey with similar markings to a budgerigar. He loves to incorporate his wings into his parkour routines, but is able to maneuver them without the use of his wings. Though he loves using his wings, he doesn't depend upon them for anything, and is as fit as he is in canon - the danger in his father's workplace scares him and motivated him to be independent.

Bella: She has raven wings that are one and a half armlengths. The coloring is similar to a tawny frogmouth, though it is more pigmented, leaning closer to blue-black than a light brown. She is very adept at using her wings, and she uses her flexibility to hold them horizontal and often balances tools on them while working.

Freddie: He has slightly underdeveloped hummingbird wings. Since he is 9, and behind his peers, his wings are a sore point for him and he generally hides them. He has similar coloring to an adolescent magpie.

Wings in real life:

The wings vary in size from elbow-span to full arm span and bigger and sprout from the shoulder blades

They also vary in colour and pattern

There’re stereotypes for wing type

Just generic stuff like bigger wings = bigger genitals

But also stuff like “people with crow wings are untrustworthy”

Wing type and size can run in the family

“Yea, I got my dad’s colouring but my mum’s pattern”

People find different wing types attractive

“Damn! Look at the wings on that guy!”

So there are bad pick up lines

“I’d ask you if it hurt when you fell from heaven, but with those wings, I doubt you could!”

New wing-related body language

People put their wings around their loved ones protectively or romantically

Wings expand to their full width when their owners are threatened

Flared wings = intimidation

People hide behind their wings

Wings change as people age

So there are youngin’s who are insecure that their wings look different than their peers

And this leads to the sexualisation of over/underdeveloped wings

Because wings won’t make humanity suck less

Wing growing pains

Sex-ed includes a part about wing growth and care

People missing one or more wings

Mostly in accidents or birth defects but removing someone’s wings can be a sign of dishonour

So there are prosthetics

There are some that match wings nearly perfectly and others that are bright and colourful to show pride in the missing parts

And other wing related disabilities

Some people can’t close up their wings to their back so they need aids to keep them from stretching too far out while indoors

Stimming by wing flapping

Rapid wing flapping is such an autistic stereotype that people do it to mock others and its listed as one of the “telltale” signs of autism

It’s not actually anymore common than any other stim, people just care more about it cause it causes the most property damage

Wings spasm and restless wing syndrome

The kid who sits in front of you in math has a wing spasm and hits you in the face

Imagine your OTP

Cultures where people cover their wings for the sake of modesty

Wing accessories

Like, can you not see a kid putting a good couple dozen tiny plastic clips and ribbons in their wings

Or flowing wing scarves

Wing fashion models

Dying of wings different colours

People change the colour of theirs to another natural colour like a darker or lighter shade of brown

But also people dying their wings 14 shades of purple

And there are different patterns that can be dyed into them

Hairstylists but for wings

Wing cosmetic surgery to change their shape

Getting gray feathers in wings with age

Male pattern loss of feathers

Buff dudes and gals with absolutely ripped wings

Gendered wings

Certain wing shape being considered masculine and some feminine

TERFs doing the whole “How to tell if X is trans by wing shape/size/colour”

Of course, this is all bs

Especially since different races have different wing types

Its all just racist, sexist, transphobic bs

It is very rude to touch someone’s wings without their permission

Depending on the context and place touched, its even assault

Getting to touch the underside of your partner’s wings with your hands is the equivalent of ‘secound-base’ or something

And close friends hug each other and cuddle into the inside of each other’s wings

“Jessie gives the best hugs. Their wings are just so soft”

“Please keep your arms, legs, and wings inside the ride at all times”

Man-spreading but with wings

Just people with wings in general

Can you tell I think about this too often

Now that she's active, I can mention this. Violetta and Aster, Freddie's adoptive moms are @pagesofcursive characters. They're both from CoF(fee) so if you enjoyed them here, go over to Briar's blog and give them some love

Secret Identities

Word count: 4,676

Summary: Freddie’s overeager adoptive parents jump at the chance of securing a new friend for their kid. The person they have in mind is Zach, someone Freddie has not typically gotten along with. Can they settle their differences? Or will their already fragile relationship be torn asunder?

Warnings: shouting, I can’t really think of anything else, but if someone spots something, please let me know

“It’ll be so much fun!” his mom, or as most knew her, Violetta, squealed, pulling Freddie in for a tight hug. “I’m so glad you’re hanging out with kids your age!”

“Or, at least, close to your age,” Aster, or Mama as he called her, remarked. She dropped a soft kiss on his head once Violetta reluctantly let him out of the hug.

“Plus, you already know him so well- from that time you guys spent living together!”

Freddie had shared the past traumatic experiences of his life with his new mums, and they had been very supportive, sending him to therapy and making sure he had a happy and secure environment to fall back on. Unfortunately, this also meant expanding his friend group, something he generally found difficult to do. His superior intellect, while it helped him make leaps and bounds in different research projects with prominent scientists of the time, meant he struggled to relate to many other people. He had been a lot closer to Bella than he’d been to Zach, though he tolerated her since she shared his love of learning. Zach was nice enough, but not generally his taste. His mums had already met Bella and practically fallen in love; Bella’s social skills made it difficult for anyone to be repulsed by her. They’d been ecstatic by the first “friend” they’d met, so it made sense they’d jump at the opportunity for him to make another.

A phone call later, Zach was scheduled to come over that coming weekend. Freddie had spent the entire week mentally preparing for the visit. When his studies and various scientific projects hadn’t served as enough of a distraction, he decided to spend Thursday and Friday behind his closet. Shortly after moving in with his adoptive moms, he had divided his spacious closet in two - the front was his sparse wardrobe and behind was a secret compartment. Inside it was a haven to him. His prized comics made up one wall, while the other was plastered in superhero posters. A display case proudly presented the Spidey-serum along with an imitation of most of Hawkeye’s arrows, and a round shield he’d started experimenting with. He picked it up and made his way to the workbench underneath a poster. He’d been experimenting with different compounds to coat the shield in that would make it significantly more durable.

Not trying to be conceited reblogging my own stuff, but this is my friend! She adds stuff to the tags, which is super sweet since she's seen it already since she answered the same questions with her characters. I can't wait for her to share about them, they're all so loveable 💜

Character Question 9

What will they stand up for?

Zach: anyone who can't fight back. Stories of his mother's kindness and his father's progression has led to him having a righteous view of the world. His nobility wins out over all else. He will put almost anything and everything on the line to save someone who is unjustly suffering.

Bella: uneducated kiddies. I've spoken about this before, but she hates that there are people in the world that will most likely never rise above the station since they weren't educated. It's definitely something she's doing when she has the money.

Freddie: theories he believes in. He doesn't like when people disregard scientific theories without solid proof. He knows how much effort goes into creating something worthy for the public eye, so he may get into debates over new theories. He also defends underrated but true theories, bringing them out into the world and helping the scientists behind them.
