You weren’t surprised to hear of his arrival from another. Nor disappointed that he didn’t call for you immediately. That was your father’s way. He doted on Alice and shunned you. She brought him esteem with her marriage to a duke and you brought him disgrace with your failure to garner even a betrothal. The convent lurked on your horizon.

Lucky for him Bucky canceled on you for the trip back to your hometown, leaving him to go along with you instead. Treating him to a true taste of normalcy that’s anything but normal, in a town where nobody knows who he is or at least they don’t care, it’s a vacation full of warm sweaters, hot cider and fall shenanigans.

Tony’s going to have his head once he figures out Steve’s busted another punching bag wide open. He’ll have to make a mental note to buy him some of that really expensive civet coffee he loves to chug so much. For now, he puts another bag on the hook and proceeds to wail on it. He grits his teeth painfully, tries to shove the scene going on behind him out of his head.

You’ve been sidelined, arm bound up in a cast and sling with orders to not push yourself. Shattered wrist, bruised neck, a deep purple necklace around your throat. Spirits high despite your ordeal, your injuries. You’re spotting Bucky, standing over him as he benches an impressive three hundred pounds. Your laughter carrying across the gym to ring inside his head, rattles his insides not unlike an earthquake.

You had grown accustomed to working alone, so when you found out that Mosley assigned an aid to you for the Neruda negotiations, you weren’t happy. Actually, that’s putting it lightly. 

You were irate. 

Of course, you didn’t get the news until you were already on the plane to Soledad which meant you couldn’t call him to argue the point.

When you landed, you were greeted by a tall, young blonde holding a sign with your name on it. This was the first time you met John Beckett, the man you now know is a member of one of the world’s most prolific terrorist organizations.
