The night was restless. Every time you were about to doze, Steven rolled over again and took you. Just as fervent as the first time. In a way, it was easier but it hurt just the same. You were tender still and he only seemed encouraged by your squirms and squeals. You slept for an hour before the sun rose and when it did, it seared your eyes and threatened to crack your skull.

You had stared at Bucky right after he had spoken the words. Wanting nothing more than to smack him upside down when he so eloquently told you he didn’t know where Steve lived. Bucky had stolen the Infinity Stones from one of the highest guarded and secured museums without a flaw, he had broken into your apartment, and left it without a trace of his whereabouts, and yet, he didn’t know where Steve lived. And you could still feel the soreness in your throat from when you had scoffed at him as a result.

Opening your mouth to retaliate, you had every intention to lead him in the direction of your blond friend so he could leave you be, only to realize that you had no idea where Steve lived either, and your mouth closed shut as a frown settled on your features.

TIANA

They met in graduate school. Both in their early twenties, figuring out life, trying to balance the demanding expectations of their classes and the fun times with their friends. 

They had been in the “honeymoon phase” since before they even started dating. Tiana remembered every single detail about the night they first met. A mutual friend’s party, she was wearing a brand new top she had just bought that day itself on a spontaneous shopping trip with her best friends paired with jeans that made her legs look amazing, as Steve would tell her later that night. It was practically a cliche movie moment; they locked eyes across the room and couldn’t stop staring. Steve approached her, his blue eyes bright, blond hair neatly trimmed, jawline chiseled, the sleeves of his nice shirt hugging his built biceps. If she wasn’t in love already, their conversation was even more appealing. They found a corner to themselves and talked about everything under the sun. The little things, such as the weird insect Steve found under a rock while he was camping when he was six and the best piece of pizza Tiana had ever eaten in her life in New York City just last week. The big things, too. Steve reflecting on his mother’s death when he was young, and Tiana discussing her experiences with bulimia when she was a mere middle schooler.

Being friends with Bucky meant you had the privilege of being on the receiving end of his twisted sense of humor, always getting picked on, talked about like you weren’t even there, and getting tickled until you threatened to pee all over him. It also meant having someone to stay up late and watch stupid rom-com’s with, binge on pizza and beer, and be totally comfortable walking around in a tank and underwear with.

Not that you spent much time traipsing around in your panties, especially since your feelings for Bucky had somehow catapulted over the line between friends and something more. You never said anything or acted any differently because you knew that Bucky would only ever see you as his second-best friend, the sometimes annoying girl he treated like a little sister.

And then, in the blink of an eye, everything changed.

You exhaled loudly as you finally got a moment to relax, one of the program support staff of the daycare currently covering for you so you could go to the bathroom. 

You absolutely loved working with kids and were striving to be in the field of developmental psychology one day– but for now, while you were still working on your bachelor’s degree, working at a daycare where you could at least observe and work with kids and their development would have to do. You loved every second of it, but it was certainly exhausting taking care of eighteen toddlers. Thankfully, you had the help of other toddler teachers; there was no way you could have done it yourself.

You had only just recently switched to working full days; now that it was summer vacation, you could work from 9 to 6 as a closer rather than only going for a few hours here and there before or after your classes. It was your third day of working full time, and while it was a lot, you were still happy with the job. 

You felt especially attached to one of your toddlers. Lincoln Rogers, or more commonly referred to as Linc, was a bright, happy, and cheeky boy, and although he had his naughty moments, he just had so much personality you could not help but be in love. He seemed to be especially fond of you too, constantly following you around, liking to cling to you, and even crying when you left for your lunch break.

A/N: Sorry if this chapter is a little off, I love you all so much, and thank you for all the looove <3. I suck at the summary, really do need to find myself something properly! :*   

Bucky vividly remembered the first time he had seen you. Steve had been introducing him to everyone, and when his eyes had zeroed in on you, he felt an instant pull. He didn’t know what it was, but his first guess was your sincere, heartfelt smile. He hadn’t seen anyone smile like that towards him for as far as he could remember, and to see you smile towards him like that just made him want to be near you. When Steve had introduced you, Bucky had hoped to hear if your voice was as sweet as your smile, but you hadn’t said a thing. Instead, you had just continued to smile in his direction, nothing else.

Bucky had been confused but didn’t want to press the matter, he had after all just arrived, and he didn’t want to come off as rude. So he waited, waited until you would help him like every other member of the Avengers did, and you did, the smile you sent his way each day was like the sun rising in the morning sky, slowly lighting up all the dark corners of life. But you never spoke to him. Not once, and even though Bucky never voiced it out loud, he wondered why you didn’t want to speak to him. He knew it wasn’t because you hated him or were afraid of him. If that had been the case, he’s pretty sure you would be running from him every time you saw him, instead of offering him a smile that reached one ear to the other and reflected so beautifully in your eyes. But it was exactly your smile which made him wonder why you never wanted to speak to him. He had tried gathering his guts many times to ask you, but every time the opportunity arose, he found himself afraid of scaring you off. He didn’t want to lose seeing that smile every day, so he kept quiet, returning your warm smile every day, hoping you would approach him one day.
