World Building- Omens- General Overview
So I’m working on a species and I need a place to throw out ideas. The species in question are called Omens (for now, I am beginning to hate the word cause I type it so much), and they’re a solitary nomadic race of ‘reapers’, so to speak. They eat the energy of dying creatures as sustenance. Not sure how that entirely works yet. Basically, their powers/abilities include:
Shape-shifting: They can shift to mimic the physical traits of a different species (Omens will stay on one planet for years at a time before moving on, they live for quite a while). They longer they mimic a species for, the better they get at it. If one gets particularly good, they can change internal organs to match those of the other species. The only thing that none of them can change is blood color, which will always be blue.
Time-sense: Based off of the one from Doctor Who. Since Omens deal with Death, they needed a way to tell when a creature was about to die. So, they can sense timelines. It’s nothing fancy like in Death Note, and it’s not absolute either. So, to explain, timelines in this context are when a person is most likely to die next. It’s a divergence in a creature’s timeline specifically at times when the wrong decision means death. It plays into the butterfly effect just a little bit. I still haven’t figured it all out yet, but I wanted to keep the aspect of free will in with the idea of being able to see someone’s death date. A little build off of this is an Omen’s ability to know the Time anywhere in the universe. This is usually non-linear, so it makes little sense to humans, who use and measure time in a linear fashion, but they make good stopwatches.
Unlike Time Lords, though, Omens have no control over Time and cannot travel through it or change the past.
So, that’s a very general overview. I’m having a lot of fun trying to build my own species from the ground up! I want to flesh out the entire society of the species, including their own planet! I have a character from this species named James. I love him with my heart. I should probably go to bed.
school started, im in hell.
anyway heres a species im working on :33 feel free to make one just please @ me!! (Phthisis is basically a boss version of phthirians yadada)
Evolutionary Genesis?
If those human species are truly of a biological evolutionary genesis, then there congenital behaviors would not be so reluctant to sudden needed/mandatory changes in their social lives and constructs. They would've easily adapted to extreme circumstances, if need be, to save their own lives. But even in the face of life or death, almost all of them behave obstinate to change(s). Truly, they're not of an evolution origin; or otherwise, they would've behaved in accordance(s).
“You wanted to see my colors. Now they spill out for you.”
Can we get some cursed facts about this really strange primate colloquially called "Humans" please? I simply cannot remember how to spell the scientific name, and I don't want to embarrass myself in front of you
well I'm AFRAAIIIID that you're going to have to be more specific, because "human" is actually a pretty big group, phylogenetically speaking!
specifically, it's every primate in the genus Homo.

this means that "human" isn't just the term for the only extant species from this group, H. Sapiens, "human" is also the proper term for all of the extinct members!
H. Neanderthalensis was a human. So was H. Erectus.
H. Habilis, H. Floresiensis, and H. Denisova were all humans.
which makes perfect sense, actually, because Homo is just the Latin word for "human" in the first place! fancy fancy.
but as anyone who's ever had to sit through a 300-level STEM class knows, Homo has another definition, this time from Greek, meaning "same".
homodont. homophone. homologous. homogenized.
but doesn't that also make perfect sense? bones aside, if all of the extinct species of human were resurrected right now and you ran into, say, a Denisovan and a Neanderthal on the street, wouldn't you recognize them?
"You are like me. We are the same."
"We are the same."

The Kadez is a medium-sized river chelicerate, living in particularly pure, well-oxygenated streams. It tolerates very cold temperatures and as such is often found in mountain streams. They turn over pebbles with their legs in search of small invertebrates, roe, and other small prey to eat. It is quite an active creature, and in areas where they are abundant, they'll often come up onto land for other food sources. That said, they are quite skittish, and surprisingly fast -especially underwater-, so it isn't always easy to approach them.
The bibby is one of the largest species in the nudel family. Adaptable and resourceful, they can be found in a variety of environments, provided enough humidity. Primarily a grazing animal, they also have a fondness for fallen fruits. Their large fangs are mostly used for defense or to pierce the tough skin of some of the fruits found in their natural habitat.
Fun fact: Gender and Sex are both human made constructs designed to describe natural phenomenon but are not actually based in any biological reality. Much like the concept of “species”, it’s a model, and no model is an actuality - then it would not be a model, it would be a fact.
In truth sexual characteristics are diverse and varied and do not always match up with sex chromosomes; also, a sexual “binary” of sorts is not constant amongst all living things, and most organisms have other systems of reproduction.
Furthermore, gender is the suite of societally-defined social roles and behavioral characteristics that is typically assigned based on the externally perceived sex of a child; and does not actually have anything to do with biology - even less so than sex. Even though it is assigned based on this externally perceived sex, a person’s gender does not have to remain with the one assigned; much as we don’t determine people’s careers based on who their parents were anymore, your birth has no limitation on who you are and what gender identity you construct for yourself. Since it is a societally defined construct, people can and do construct more than the two traditional ones, and all are valid.
Just because you cannot handle your societally constructed worldview surrounding sex, gender, and genetics being dismantled by sociology & biology itself doesn’t mean, additionally, that you have the right to make other people feel unsafe and uncomfortable - in short, that you have the right to remove people from moral consideration - simply because you don’t like having your world view being dismantled. Believe it or not, the complexities of human behavior & the diversity of sex and reproduction in life cannot all be covered in a simple high school biology class.
So next time you want to say “didn’t you pass biology” remember: a biology PhD student, who graduated from the University of Notre Dame with an actual degree in Biological Sciences, has reminded you that you’re wrong.
There are more than two genders.
The end.
CHAT IVE MADE A DISCOVERY.
So I was reading this Neal deGrasse Tyson book (cuz I’m a fucking nerd) and it says that if we find intelligent life on jupiters moon Europa (the most likely candidate for life in our solar system) they would be called EUROPEANS
I KNEW IT
I KNEW THEY WEREN’T HUMAN
So far, this is the second biggest Northern Raven feather found from the latest excursion. Even with my eyes wide shut, just by the smell, I can guest it is one. Definitely going right away in my collection.
Wolfbane Flower?
I'm not an expert in wild flowers but these look like the wolfbane ones who's most species are extremely poisonous and must be dealt with, very carefully. They are also native to the mountainous parts of the Northern Hemisphere which we are in so, just taking pictures for now.
I had a thought so important I downloaded the tumblr app but I forgot it so. Did you know beetles make up probably 22% of species on earth
Was going to reblog it, but can't find the original post I got it from, so I just posted it. I suck at Tumblr searches.
Uffff👌
