I can't believe I walked past this four times! This is why Barcus is my favourite NPC. Not only did his voice actor give it his all and do a spectacular job, but the character grows so much throughout the story. To some, he could be seen as prickly and obsessive, as well as too lenient on a "friend" who doesn't even care about him. In truth, however, he's unwilling to overlook Wulbren's extremes, despite their history and his deep feelings for him. He also goes from doubting your kindness to actively seeking your help. He learns to trust you, which is notoriously difficult for deep gnomes because of their struggles in the Underdark. They're often defensive and on edge, because they never know what misfortune is waiting to befall them. But they're fiercely loyal to the people they cherish, and you become someone Barcus cherishes in a very short time.
