LGBTQ+ BOOK RECCOMENDATIONS
i was reading through a list of books earlier and thought there were some forgotten gems that needed attention, so here goes:
m/m –
simon vs the homo sapiens agenda – becky abertalli. (i’m sure at this point everyone’s heard of this book, what with the movie coming out (ha) next year and everything, but a little more promoting couldn’t hurt!)
openly straight – bill kongisburg. (despite the somewhat backwards title, this book – along with it’s sequel, honestly ben – covers the importance of living without labels and being freely, unapologetically, yourself.)
aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe – benjamin alire sánez. (along with exploring the struggles of coming to terms with one’s sexuality, the book also discusses one’s own racial and ethnicity acceptance and relationships with family.)
one man guy – michael barakiva. (covers the struggles that come along with religion and sexuality, and the importance of a healthy relationship)
at the edge of the universe - shaun david hutchinson. (it focuses less on the m/m relationship and more on the aftermath of one. also talks about the effects of rape, be careful! but it also includes a gender fluid supporting character – and they’re amazing.)
we are the ants - shaun david hutchinson. (another great m/m novel by SDH, which is also very existential, if you’re into that.)
i’ll give you the sun - jandy nelson. (told from two points of views, the brother, noah, is gay, but more than that the novel focuses on familial relationships, both strained and strong)
carry on – rainbow rowell. (not only is it m/m, it’s got WIZARDS and VAMPIRES. i mean, does it get any better??)
trans –
the art of being normal - lisa williamson. (discusses hardships of being a transgender teen in relationships, and coming out)
symptoms of being human - jeff garvin. (focuses on the fact that gender is not a switch, it’s a dial, and the importance of staying true to yourself and your message as a human, despite bullying and it’s affects on one’s thoughts.)
gracefully grayson - ami polonsky. (the main character is mtf, and tries out for the school play as the female lead. the novel focuses on coming out and having to deal with less than stellar reactions from school peers.)
sadly, i have not been able to find any f/f books (maybe i’m not looking in the right places??), and i know this list is not very extensive, so if you have any favorites, feel free to add them!!
Happy Pride Month fellow queers!
Remember to be safe and have fun!

I’m a lesbian and I already know that bisexual culture is having a crush on both of these people
