What about such a fanfic?

Baldwin IV comes back home in the evening after a long exhausting travel, he's exhausted, thirsty and very hungry. He complains about that all to the one, who always cares for him the most, that can be his closest friend. He complains about his lack of energy and his hunger, and it "unlocks the inner grandmother" in that friend, who's trying their best to let Baldwin have his deserved dinner and dessert. They give him so many delicious rarities, one after another, that he finally protests aganist more of them, but can to to bed not being hungry anymore, even being very well-fed. And being very thankful to his friend. Or rather "thank-full" because of them.

Yeah, i know it all might sound weird...

But i hope it's not a problem :)

(Sorry it took so long, recently I have no motivation to write 😩)

The news about the king's return from a long and tiresome travel spreads like wildfire among the nobles and the moment it reaches lady (Y/N)'s ears, without hesitation she rushes outside to greet her dear friend.

''(Y/N).'' - utters joyfully Baldwin and with the help of knights dismounts his horse.

Lady (Y/N) has known the king since childhood and can tell he needs to rest, so she approaches him with an offer: ''My king, you've come just in time. I prepared a lot of delicious food. I hope your majesty will try my specialties?''

''How could I refuse my beloved lady.'' With that said he presses the mask's lips to her knuckles and linking arms with the lady, they head together to the great hall, where the table is already set with the first hot meal being currently served. ''It smells delicious.'' - comments Baldwin just as his stomach starts rumbling.

''I believe you're very hungry right now.''

''Oh, yes, very. We had limited portions of food, not to mention our water supply. This travel exhausted me so much I barely can walk.''

''My dear!'' Concerned lady (Y/N) helps Baldwin to faster take a seat at the table and promptly comes back to the kitchen only to return a few seconds later with a pot full of fresh water. ''Here, take a sip.'' Baldwin doesn't refuse and quickly empties the golden goblet. Then he devours the soup and next meals, while lady (Y/N) keeps bringing more food and beverages of different kinds.

''My lady, this is all delicious and I'd love to taste them all, however my stomach has no more free space to contain those delicacies.''

''But you haven't eaten enough to regain your strength. Just one more cashew-''

''Lady (Y/N).'' Baldwin grabs her hand to caress it with his thumb and adds in a soft tone: ''I'm truly full now.''

''Oh, my dear Baldwin, you've been though a lot these days.'' - says worriedly lady (Y/N), cupping the king's face to look deeply into his blue eyes.

''I missed my home but not as much as you, my lady. I yearned for your soothing touch, your angelic voice and your incredible kindness. Thank you, lady (Y/N), thank you for everything.''

''I'm always here for you, Baldwin.'' And the two of them gently embrace each other, finding solace in their reunion.

Baldwin IV, the... Gamer King?

Something I've found interesting - and rather surprising, tbh - is the increasing number of games and game concepts in which Baldwin IV features, and not simply as inspiration for the characters' designs, but as himself.

Here's how many places I've found him and the accompanying artwork of him (all very obviously inspired by - you guessed it - Kingdom of Heaven)

Sid Meier's Civilization V

This mod adds the Kingdom of Jerusalem as a civilization to the game, with Baldwin IV as its leader. There's info on him on this wiki page, including his war and peace themes ("The Holy Land" and "Siege of Kerak" from Crusader Kings 2, respectively.)

Sid Meier's Civilization VI

This mod also adds the Kingdom of Jerusalem into the next game of the series, again with Baldwin IV as its leader.

Crusader Kings III

This mod overhauls CK3 to allow the player to assume the role of any leader present in Kingdom of Heaven (as well as their contemporaries around Europe and Asia), including Baldwin IV - although you won't get to play as him for very long before his death.

This is all I've personally been able to find so far, but there's probably more out there I've missed. If anyone has run across any other game-related art of Baldwin IV, please share!

A few of my screenshots from Sands of Faith, a Kingdom of Heaven-inspired total conversion mod for Mount&Blade: Warband. Currently playing as King Baldwin IV in the Kingdom of Jerusalem faction and totally ignoring the fact there's no possible way he could have engaged in physical battle in 1185 (when the mod is set), but that's part of what makes it so much fun. You can customize his appearance in chargen, but, due to the game's graphics, even with texture enhancements and my best efforts he kinda looks like a potato. So we're keeping the mask on, lol.

I absolutely ADORE the painting depicting the battle of Montgisard that I HAD TO DRAW BALDWIN THERE

This painting WOO beautiful! I love LOVE the dramatics on this one.

THE COLORS, THE POSES AND THE SENSE OF URGENCY AND CHAOS FELT THAT REALLY CAPTURES THE BATTLE AHHHH Arches are readying their bows, Smoke coming from nearby villages that've been sacked and Saladin's army struggling to calm their horses as they're being overrun by crusaders! Such an iconic painting!

Baldwin is paler than the rest, making him standout along with the litter he's on that really adds to how unique it is compared to other paintings of kings

You can kinda imagine what he's saying. like praying to God, Saints, and Angels as he looks at the heavens for guidance thinking that he could possibly die or lose the battle!

Overall 10/10. I wish his helmet was in KoH though

When you start reading biographies...

It's too early in the morning for me to get this emotional! *sucks in the tears and carries on with my day.*

How do you think Tiberias would react if a young court lady basically adopted him as a father/uncle figure and always went to him for advice?

He'd find it odd at first and scratch his head in confusion and do his usual adorable *grumble grumble harrumph* thing, but ultimately he'd be very flattered to be asked for advice. The father / uncle role comes to him pretty naturally, I think, with all those stepsons running around and his fondness for Baldwin and Sibylla. So after a while he'd probably just sigh and mentally sign the papers for yet another adoptive child. (Last time he counted, there were about seven of those. Small wonder he looks 200% done with everything at all times.)

So I imagine it would do him some good to have someone brighten his days a little and keep him on his toes. That said, he'd likely be a bit awkward with her at first because he's not used to a lot of young female company and can't imagine why she'd want to hang around him of all people. But once they got more familiar with each other, he'd sass the poor lady constantly, give a lot of unsolicited advice and generally be well-meaning but a bit overprotective. Always a little too well-informed, that old man.
