Just a question that's bugging me

Let's say you've been writing something for a really really long time and you never really posted it due to you wanted to finish working on it before you do and you have this big thing you think of that's super important to the plot of it. So you are really excited about how far you got but then a popular show ends up having something way similar to the important thing so now you are worried about people thinking you are copying it. What would you do? I'm sorta in that spot right now.
