celestina:

Celestina grinned and nodded in agreement, “You definitely still have it in you.” she replied without any sort of hesitation. She wasn’t going to deny someone of their confidence and it looked like the other needed that boost. She was known for telling it like it is and in this case, she wasn’t holding back. When Norah asked about what type of books she enjoyed as a kid, Celestina took a moment to think about a response. It was…a lot, especially when she used that as an escape from her shitty upbringing. Eventually books were soon replaced by drugs, alcohol and constant partying, but that was the turn of unfortunate events when she got older.

“The type of books that gave me an opportunity to escape from reality.” In no way was she going to explain a sob story of her life on her end, therefore she kept the conversation as upbeat as possible and said, “I mean let’s face it, real life is a taaad bit boring. Gotta love authors who give you a chance at letting your imagination run wild with the whole world building and all. Or even if it is close to real life, you get a chance at being in someone else’s shoes y’know?”

The other’s compliment caused a hint of a flush to color Norah’s cheeks, that hometown shyness rising to the surface once more. Sometimes, Mystic felt like an old pair of shoes that just slightly didn’t fit anymore. Everyone here knew her to be almost mousy, and small — shy. But, in LA, she’d taken up space, she’d commanded rooms, she... mattered. No, the Norah of LA didn’t cower — didn’t blush. Where had that person gone, she wondered, as she turned over the once fallen novel in her hands. That person, that woman, would’ve charged into a room, sure of herself, and fully aware of what she needed to do to make everything okay for her child. She needed that Norah right now. They both did.

Blinking slowly, as if the conversation was coming back into focus, Norah tried to imagine what she read as kid, but it was all plays and Shakespeare, and then movie scripts she could find online. She wasn’t exactly apart of the sample size, for ‘normal’ reading material for her age bracket. The kinds of things she’d needed escaping from when she was younger, and the kinds of things her son was feeling were likely feeling were different, but... maybe this was a start, right?

“You... have been far more helpful than you think. Did I catch your name?”
