Me and my parents and brother finished watching the first episode of Ahsoka and I was grinning every time a Rebels character appeared and the little callbacks to the show. Also, please someone tell me that I’m not the only one on here that thought that star map looked somewhat similar to the map from Treasure Planet!

The further I get into rebels, the more I realize that Hera Syndulla is only the voice of reason among the Ghost crew by default.
Like, this woman is not normal. She could have anybody in the galaxy and she went for a wanted criminal with superpowers. She ran away from her family's palatial mansion to go live in a camper with said criminal boyfriend. Her job experience includes "getaway driver" and that's it. Some punk tried to steal from her and she immediately went "where are the adoption papers, I'm ready to sign". The only reason Hera seems normal is because her family consists of a kleptomaniac, a pyromaniac, a man who spent the first fifteen years of his life in a monastery and the next fifteen years of his life getting drunk, a mass murderer trapped in the body of a trash bin, and a guy who probably lists aggravated assault as a hobby on his Grindr profile.
Hera is the most reasonable member of the Ghost crew. Which is kind of like being the tallest Ewok.
Based on extremely liberal extrapolation of the events of the most recent Ahsoka episode it is my theory that Xiono and Hera will be the canon equivalent of Fey’lya and Ackbar
Changing our perspective on a character is important.
Yeah, it’s easy to see Xiono as an Imperial Sympathizer until you stop and say ‘wait, he doesn’t see/know what we know and it’s not a Rebellion anymore and rules have to be followed’.
It’s heartbreaking to see the level of distrust that are going on in the New Republic between different Senators and members of the Military.
They’re not use to the Imperial Moffs/Governors working together and we see in ANH that they’re prone to bickering and it’s implied that Vader does what he wants, when he wants, where he wants and to who he wants unless ordered otherwise.
They’re used to Imperial generals and admirals disobeying orders for glory/revenge/out of spite/etc so to think that they’re actually working together for a bigger goal is borderline unbelievable.
And it’s very believable that Xiono heard the excuses from Imperial Officers as to why mass slaughter was committed that sounded disturbingly similar to what Hera gave for disobeying orders to not go.
Imagine being basically told that because you didn’t pick up a weapon and fight or join the Rebellion that your opinion on something doesn’t matter.
All Xiono sees is a woman getting off scot-free all because she’s a hero and because a high ranking senator forged documents.
How many times did that happen in the Empire in the Senate? That they had an officer dead to rights for war crimes only for them to get off on a technicality or due to fabricated evidence and you know that you can’t pursue them because of what will happen to you if you do.
Xiono can’t call Leia out for fabricating the transcripts because she’s considered a hero and using her position of Head of the Defense Committee to make it look official without him looking like a jerk or having a vendetta with either Leia or Hera.
I believe that, sadly, the New Republic was destined for failure because of distrust and fear.
Leia
You know having seen all of Ahsoka so far, Leia is being shown as the only person in the NR government who seems to have a functioning brain cell. She has no tolerance for political bs and gets shit done. The series has made me love Leia even more. She has Anakin’s intolerance for political bs but has the brain cells of Padme aka she was why the First Order had to wait to invade the Galaxy.
Well, I would argue Mon also has a brain cell.
But here is the thing. Senator Xiono isn’t an idiot. The only reason we think he’s an idiot is because we know that the Imperial remnants are going to become the First Order. He’s a bit dismissive of that threat, yes. But I cut him a lot of slack because there is a much more familiar threat he sees right in front of him and that is what he is reacting to.
And that threat is Hera.
A high ranking general of the New Republic pretty much told her civilian oversight to go fuck themselves, and disobeyed direct orders. We know Hera was right to do so. But here is the thing, Xiona has no way to know that with the information he has. (Yes, yes, he could stand to go out to the Outer Rim more. But really? He isn’t the only one guilty of that flaw. And even if he did, what proof would he find there was a coordinated effort between the Imperial factions? They went out of their way to make sure it didn’t look like they were working together.)
What Xiona does know? Is that Imperial Generals had no oversight except the Emperor. Who never reigned them in. So you have the New Republic, who acknowledges the need for a military force of some kind, but are wary of military power. Justifiably so, given galactic history of the last 40 years. So they needed accountability for their army, and make the Senate their oversight.
Then Hera comes along and tell them, essentially, “No, I know better,” and doing whatever the hell she wanted. And when she is brought back to the New Republic senate to justify herself, she tells them she did what she did for ‘the security of the New Republic’.
And this is where Xiono is goddamn right to be riding Hera’s ass. Because that line of justification? Is exactly what Imperial Generals used to say when committing war crimes. Granted Hera didn’t do that. But she did get several X-Wing pilots killed, so her actions had some pretty permanent consequences. Hera feels those consequences, I have no doubt. But that doesn’t take away from the fact those pilots are dead because she chose to disobey direct orders. And gave a rousing speech in her defense that was very Imperial in tone.
Hindsight is 20/20, that is the only reason so many people have taken a great big dislike to Xiono. He isn’t an Imperial sympathizer. From what I’ve gleaned from his wookiepedia page, he isn’t even corrupt. No, he didn’t fight in the Rebellion, but there are a lot of people in SW that is true for. And just because he didn’t fight directly, doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything to help the Rebellion. He was just a guy, who was doing his best. And if it wasn’t for the fact that we know how this particular chapter of SW history ended, we probably wouldn’t be so hard on him. Cause in this case? He had a really good point.

Rex Remembers
Rex didn’t know how he missed it. He walked closer to the multi-haired girl. On her shoulder, that number he has seen it before. It was the symbol of his brother. He hadn’t seen it in a long time. He walked closer to her and touched the symbol. Ashoka looked at her old friend, and realized why he looked so sad. That five was a huge part of his life back in the Clone Wars. His eyes filled with tears.
“Fives.” Was all he whispered. And all it took for Ashoka to take two huge strides toward her friend. And she put her hand on his shoulder.
“What’s going on Ashoka?” Sabine asked. The crew of the ghost looking on in curiosity. Rex dropped his hand to his side and sighed.
“This was the symbol of one of my brothers. CT-25555. Fives. He was so proud of that number he got it tattooed on his forehead. Dumb as shit he was. But smarter than anyone else I knew. Except for Echo. Also dumb as shit.” Rex let out a small laugh as Ashoka tightened her grip on his shoulder.
“These where some of the men that served under Rex and I. They where some of the best men anyone could ask for.” She laughed, “We had great time with them.”
Ezra stole a glimpse at Sabine locking eyes with her. Curiosity written across his face. Sabine went to motion him not to ask. But his curiosity got the best of them.
“Really?” The small blue haired boy asked.
Rex was taken aback. Before he started laughing. He reminded him of Echo always curious, ever learning. While the girl reminded him of Fives, rambunctious and always looking for a fight, but fiercely protective. Fitting she got his number.
“Yes. Those where my brothers. We fought side by side in many battles. From the Rishi moon, to Umbara. I met them at at Rishi moon base. They never left my side after that day.
On the battle of Kamino they fought bravely protecting the cadets with us. Fives was a grand speaker, he inspired us. He inspired me.
Echo on the other hand, was not good with people. But he was smart. If you needed to know something you go to him.
On the Citadel he fought bravely.” Rex took in a deep breath. The crew was sat around him listening intently to his stories. Even Kanan had sat down to lis
“Echo went for the shuttle. And it exploded. We couldn’t go for him. We had to leave.” He had to take another minute to compose himself. Ashoka put her arm around him. And he looked at her and smile.
“Fives was devastated, as was I. But Fives more than anyone. Fives became more sullen and quiet. But never lost the fire in his eye. He fought braver than ever after that. Maybe because he had nothing left to live for. But it was on Umbara where he really shined.
Our temporary Jedi general turned on us. He tried to warn me, but I wouldn’t listen. I was a fool not to listen. He fought courageously at my side.
It was when another of my men, Tup, his chip malfunctioned. Fives was the one who discovered it. He was framed by the chancellor, and he tried to warn me again. I this time I listened. He was shot. I held him in my arms as he died.
Later we found Echo was alive. Fives would have been ecstatic to have his brother back. Echo left with another group of clones. One he fit in with. It hurt to see him go.” Rex stopped and dropped his head into his hands. Ashoka also dropped her head. The crew looked around sadly, but was surprised when Rex started laughing.
“Uh, Rex are you ok?” Ashoka asked. Rex nodded still laughing.
“I was just thinking of that time y’all painted my armor.” It took Ashoka a minute before she realized the memory he was talking about. And turned red in shame. Which only made Rex laugh harder and Ashoka turn reder. The crew looked at the pair. Before Ezra just had to ask another question.
“What are you talking about?”
“Once before a week long mission. Ashoka, Fives, and Echo snuck into my chamber and painted my armor pink. I had no time to wipe it off or paint over it before we had to leave.
I had never been more embarrassed. In my life. The general wouldn’t stop laughing at me.” This caused the crew to begin to laugh as well.
“Are you sure it’s not as embarrassing as that time Fives and Hardcase put bright red hair dye and glitter into your shampoo?” Ashoka asked her old friend.
“Right I forgot about that. That was a long time ago. It stayed red and shiny for weeks.” Rex laughed.
Rex and Ashoka continued to carry on telling stories of the past. The whole crew in tears laughing. The stories of war, stories hope, stories of sadness, stories of pranks and happiness. Stories of not a better time, but a time that came before.
Rex looked at the crew, that time was long gone. Those people where long gone. This is a here and now, this was his family now. And he would protect them with his life.
