I know a lot of people hate on the Dear Evan Hansen movie—I just saw it tonight and I am so mad they cut Good for You, my favorite song—but song-cutting aside, I do not think it was emotionless or terrible. I felt SEEN by this movie and I especially empathized with Alana and her Anonymous status as an academically-strong girl struggling secretly with her mental health. I am very involved in my school community and academics, neglecting basic self-care most of the time and lacking the self-confidence to get help for my mental health struggles. Julianne Moore’s performance broke me in a thousand different ways. Heidi just being there for Evan by “So big, so small” hit different and I wished right there in that movie theater that my parents could be like that and that I would allow them too at the same time. I struggle letting people in sometimes and trusting them. To me this movie was a message that needed to be put out into this world. I balled like a baby during “You Will Be Found” because it struck me deep down in my heart. I feel alone with my problems almost every day, but this movie (and the musical it is based on) remind me each and every time that my life is hard but it will go on. I will live and I will grow and that someday someone will see me.

Saw the Dear Evan Hansen movie yesterday and loved it…but I’m also going to have to sue for emotional damages on account they left my favorite song out of the movie.

Omggggggg yessss, that was one of the main things I was really excited to see and it wasn’t there. I was like nooooo, and then had to proceed to explain to my mom after we saw the film what happened in the play with Connor and why they skipped that song…and you get an earlier context clue that makes you go 😱 about the fact Evan didn’t fall out of the tree.

Anyway I can’t wait to watch Dear Evan Hansen the movie with someone who’s also seen the musical so we can just mutually be like “WHERES DISAPPEAR WHERES GHOST CONNOR WHAT IS HAPPENING”
