Poll Time - Civ Evil Twin
He would have eye shadow and look edgy like a villain or bad boy. He would also refuse to wear a speedo (a high crime in these parts).
Design ideas or suggestions welcome, but it'll be on Civ's base model.
Pardon me, just the FBI coming through
Submit your underwear whenever it is convenient
A visit from the Federal Bulge Inspectors! Oh!
Oh...uh....reporting for .... inspection then?
Unless you want me to literally submit them? What could you possibly need them for?
Oooh.... Actually says here you have to submit your undies for a greater inspection, sorry those are the rules
Uh....oh...oh-kay then...I'll just...uh...give these to you.
Please stop staring! It's...cold in here.
Please hurry, I need these back.
CIV!!! what the hell were you thinking??? The Federal Bulge Inspector was supposed to come around to you in October ! That man just ran off with your Briefs!
WAIT WHAT?!
HOW COME NOBODY WARNED ME EARLIER? THEY WALKED BACK TO THEIR CAR!
SORRY GUYS. I'LL BE BACK LATER. THAT DUDE'S GOT MY FAVORITE PAIR!
This is so embarrassing...
You've mentioned "rez" in your pinned introduction post. If you don't mind me asking, are you by some chance a Native American?
I am, in fact, not Native American. I am pasty white boy. I grew up right next to, and sometimes in, the Navajo Nation. Its also called the Reservation, or just 'the rez'.
I have a lot of childhood Navajo friends, and know a few things about the customs, but I am just a Caucasian dude from Northern Arizona that grew up near the rez.
More about doggo below:
The reason I mentioned the rez is because my dog is what we call a rez mutt. The rez has a ton of wild dogs that were once domesticated breeds, so German Shepard, Australian Shepard, Heeler, every kind of herding dog, Huskies, etc are found wild out there. They interbreed and eventually make these mutts that are like 5 main breeds put together.
Thus we have my pretty girl, Lady, who was a rez rescue:
Who is somewhere between German Shep (Color pattern and face shape when here ears are up), Aussie Shep (more color pattern and size), Heeler, herd dog, Husky (curly tail) and probably a few miscellaneous breeds we can't find evidence for. We can't be exactly sure, so those are all literal guesses based on what we know is out there.
Thus the term rez dog is common since it's basically just a term for the rez's specific mixes of mutts it can make, too which every single one is basically it's own unique breed.
God you are so cool.
Honestly, I really do appreciate yall. It's super awesome that some people on here like what I do and think the stuff I do, from engineering to Blender stuff, is cool. It's a really well appreciated validation. It's why I keep trying to do fun stuff with these asks, and making renders to respond to them.
I super appreciate yall, moots, fun taggers, and followers alike.
Also if you don't get the meme above, you haven't seen the magesty that is Megamind.
Adastran Sunset
Ya know, I thought getting abducted by aliens would be much worse, but this ain't half bad.
There may still be a bit of anal probing tho, lmao.
HOLY HECK! I FREAKING COOKED WITH THIS ONE! I am honestly stunned by how well this came out. This is likely one of my best pieces ever. It took a lot of work (and a cancelled DND session (Don't worry, I was sick and used the time to instead do this)), so I'm so happy it came out so well.
I was also excited to make another fanart of something. I'd read Adastra quite a while ago, but when the inspiration hits, ya know ya have to seize it. I know there's some sequels or something, but I haven't gotten around to them.
I have a lot of opinions on Adastra, so feel free to ask if you wanna lend me your ear.
so you picked an otter as a sona cause you swim a lot makes sense, but why a north american river otter specifically? also why'd you become a furry/when?
(btw civilotterneer is a FIRE username. goated af for that)
Well, it's an interesting story, but one that'll make sense after some wine, I'm sure. Trying to understand the machinations of my mind is like reading a boring quantum physics textbook that'd be more entertaining if burned for s'mores.
Short answers:
North American because I AM North American. Also freshwater swimming mammal, which is what I am IRL.
Why: basically always was a furry gamer (played animal races in every video game or DND thing), just decided to be real about it instead of hiding it internally
When: January 2024
That quantum physics textbook is written out below should you want the full deal and answers, as well as the famous Civ IKEA story.
North American, well, yes, I am
Otter=swimmer. Same page, right? Well, I initially was going for a sona that was a mammal and swam. I thought about a beaver, as they build things like damns and live in water, but didn't like the look as much. I narrowed onto the mustilid family because I like the snake cats, as Ze Frank calls them.
North American River Otter was actually because, well, I'M North American. Being from the US, I was wanting something at least from the same continent, but I was also wanting something that swam in fresh water, since that's what I swim in. The NA River Otter, was just the right amount of all of these.
When and Why
As to when and why: the why is probably because I've always been a closeted one. I always played the Khajiit Skyrim character, the Leonin or Dragonborn DND character, the most animal-like race of any game where you get to pick your character. I had a lot of furry hate for a long time cause I saw it as disgusting. Funnily enough, this was my take on being gay as well, so I guess I can blame my Christian raising for that. Turns out, the stuff I was repulsed by the most were later revealed to be aspects of myself that I likely hated because they were a part of me and I didn't actively realize it.
I can't really tell you why I was this way, just that it's always been a part of my life and its only as of recent I decided to reflect on it and live it without hiding. I also came out as bisexual (I'm currently mostly just gay, but I wouldn't mark out finding the right woman to marry still), about a year and a half before becoming a furry, so the path was kinda laid out towards getting over those old self hates.
The when is probably officially January 2024, but I started investigating around December 2023 when I decided to commission a ref sheet for what I thought would be my sona. But later, after finding @galileogb's otter model for VRChat and attending PDFC, I fell in love with this model and the idea of furry, and thus it was my sona.
The IKEA Story
There was one hiccup in that month of January, however. Just before finding Civ's model, I wasn't happy with that sona ref sheet I had gotten, and I couldn't redraw it in personal art for lack of ability. I had been questioning whether being a furry was what I wanted, so around that time, I decided to give up the idea. BUT, I was driving to Phoenix to go to IKEA and grab some furniture, and somehow I was stopped for lunch and learned that PDFC, Phoenix's early January Fur Con, was occurring. Somehow, I thought it was a good idea to just see what was going on. While I basically just sat in a corner for the whole time, a very nice, older lady sat next to me, asking how I was. She had an awesome opossum suit that was veiled, and kinda looked like a Dishonored character but with green accenting. She really made me gather up my courage to take a second look at furry stuff cause I wasn't sold by just being there alone. The next day I found the Civ base model, and the rest is history.
I think I can literally blame three things for finally giving in to becoming a furry: IKEA, that nice older lady, and @galileogb. I can't really thank yall enough. I hope to go back to PDFC this year and give that lady the real thanks she deserves if I can find her.
On the case of the Civil Otterneer name, that was just a random perfect thought I had. I knew I'd impart my civil engineering work into my sona cause if this sona was going to be as large a part of my life as my work, then there should be some reflectivity. Then, I just thought Civ was a good shortened 'name' for him to be personable after coming up with the whole thing.
Story time finally over. Anyone got another bottle?
What are those Adastra opinions you mentioned, otter boy?
Well, I was kinda opening up the floor a bit, since I wasn't gonna just impose my own takes on yall.
There's quite a few things you could bring up, so feel free to send me some asks on particular takes.
Here's some teasers/starters of my thoughts:
FVN protags are idiots, but also insanely smart
Amicus is given a lot of leeway and forgiveness
Cassius has some valid points
Space god has a lot of implications in master/servant relationships given sci-fi empires (this is my favorite)
Your Adastra fit...
Why thank you! I was told that this'll make me look more inconspicuous during my stay (which I've been told should be only a short while), but I expect it's having the opposite effect.
I don't mind though. More attention is just a little bit politically useful.
general thoughts on Amicus? and ur thoughts on his relationship with Marco?
Well, let's open up a can of worms by looking at our favorite wolf emperor.
First off:
Awooga.
Ok, now that that's out of the way, let's focus.
Amicus is pretty cool as a character for a few reasons.
First, I think his figure is a nice view of a character who can be attractive but has, well, a beer gut! I'm not for the 'becoming unhealthily overweight' side, but some of the strongest farmers on my dad's side of the family, including my dad, have builds like him. Pudgy but strong enough to lift bail rolls of hay.
Second, dear god is Amicus a sheltered noble child. I mean, he's kind, but he is way too confused why Marco acts the way he does when he's abducted.
If anything, the interaction of the pet/servant system is requiring of deep diving, but I'll keep it brief here. Amicus is supposedly 'progressive' but his culture still tells him that non-uplifted races are worthy of this servant rank, and that they should consider themselves lucky for the opportunity. His confusion to Marco's push back lends more to his lack of raising outside of nobility, he literally can't understand why one wouldn't to because he hasn't interacted enough with other species.
Now, since he's a guy who doesn't seem to have lots of friends, he becomes extremely attached to Marco. Like, unhealthily attached. It makes sense, but it's not great when your emperor has such an easy pressing point.
Now here's the thing: I think this flaw is pretty cool. It's a fascinating flaw for a sci-fi civilization character to have, causes some interesting interplay, and causes the main drama of the story, so I'm all for it.
In due honesty, Amicus has plenty of cool aspects, and leans pretty hard into his kind strengths. If he was any different or less kind, I don't think the stockholm syndrome situation would have gone so cleanly in his favor. He's pretty lucky he didn't get his skull caved by an angry ape that first day on the ship.
BUT, he's luckily also kinda hot and pretty kind, so he's got that.
The Search for Civ
Lye's Personal Log: 9/15/2024
Civ has been missing for almost a week now.
His disappearance was completely random. Checking his belongings and room, there was no signs of him saying where he would be going. His friends and coworkers said he had gone home with no word of him planning on anything. When I awoke on Tuesday, we was nowhere to be seen, though I had noted he had come home the night before.
The cops have made the missing persons report. The local diviners are unable to find a trace of him. Even my own magical efforts show him to have all but been home one moment, and then gone the next, with only a magical error that seems to think he's somewhere in the sky. No magical teleportation traces or dimensional portals to be found. By all accounts, it's as if he simply vanished.
I wonder if the procedure I did was the problem. A month ago, I had found magical traces of the monster we encountered in the ghost town known as Echo within his mind. A slow leaking magic, one that started to get stronger with time. Nevermind Civ's mental state deteriorating over the course of the month, but I feared if this continued that the creature from Echo could be using Civ to expand its territory, which I had to stop.
I had performed a magical removal procedure to remove this magical infection. Alas, this procedure removed his memories of his visits to Echo, which I thought was a happy side effect, but it successfully removed the magical infestation. It was contained and safe.
But Civ was magically vulnerable post-procedure, and it wouldn't take much for an entity to overpower him in his state, something I'm starting to worried may have happened. Even now, I worry that targeting him with strong divining magic may harm him.
However, I've run out of options.
At this point, the only way to reach Civ would be to use something magically connected to him. As a magic-less being, Civ would typically make this inordinately difficult.
But...
This magical infestation, it has parts of Civ in it. Memories, a connection, the strongest magical item connected to him. It might be the only object capable of this level of magic.
To make matters better (but also somewhat worse), Kerry put me in contact with her families...special resources. Dealing with them will be dangerous...but they might be the only way to save Civ.
I will begin preparations for this magical ritual, but it will take time, time I will use to exhaust all other search methods first. I am fearful of what may come in the future, but hopefully it will be worth it to get Civ back.

hows the civ-suit coming along? :3
It's....progressing.
Sleeves are done, and the paws are sewn, but I've been having problems with the claws. I tried 3d printing and using magnets, but they aren't secure enough. I need to look at new options for the claws. I also haven't gotten around to fixing the tail yet. It's on the list, but Imma be honest: I haven't devoted a ton of time to it since I've been focusing on The Search for Civ.
Me seeing everyone realize the Adastra reveal in The Search for Civ was planned from the start:
I enjoy watching my evil plans come to perfect fruition.
Also, just a heads up: will be taking a mild break from the main story to answer some asks and do some side stuff before continuing now that the big reveal has been done.
The show will go on!
civ for emperor!!! lets overthrow adastra's government!! put this otter in charge !!!!!!!!!
Hehehe, look at me! Emperor Civ sitting in the big chair!
Ok, imma get out of this before I get in trouble. I don't think the local wolf people will appreciate an otter Emperor. I'm here as a guest from one of the other dignitaries visiting the palace, so I probably shouldn't get on the Adastran's bad sides, at least for my dignitary's sake.
Besides, I heard that they're about to start the trials to choose their next Emperor, and I'm not sure I could successfully complete them. I've heard that it's two brothers that are vying for the position. One of them, 'Amicus', has a super rare pet called a 'simian', but the other, 'Cassius', is like a great debater. I don't think I could beat either of those two points unless there's a contest about designing city water infrastructure.
Oh well, one can dream, but I appreciate yall's support for plans for otter-world domination.
do civ and lye have a favourite song?
Favorite song. Favorite song.. Favorite Song...
I don't really have a favorite song, moreso a favorite for a while. It would be more accurate to say I have a favorite 'selection' for a period of like 3 months.
I have a really funny pattern where I remake playlists every few months, taking my favorites from the last and slowly accumulating the next one. Eventually, my 'favorite' songs no longer get taken to the next one, so I have an actual record of my evolving taste with time. Oh, also each 'Volume' I make has a different Star Wars meme for the cover image.
General speaking, I like synth and vaporwave, pop, club music, and mixes of those. Currently, my 'favorite' selection includes a lot of Fox Stevenson, specifically 'Bruises', 'Victory over Truth', and 'New Amsterdam'.
Lye likes a lot of older pop (which btw, is still IRL me's taste as well, lol). Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, anything from them before 2015 typically. You'll catch her singing 'Applause', 'No Lie', or 'I Kissed a Girl' sometimes when she's working and forgets I'm cooking or something.
These new posts are awwsoomee i am fucking ENTHRALLED
I'm glad it's been enjoyable for yall! It's a great compliment!
This has been a fun little adventure so far, and I'm excited to keep going and see this story to it's end. Stay tuned, the main story will be staring back up sometime next week!
So Livic, what can you do that Civil can't? Aside from being naked, of course.
Well, let's just say...a lot.
I mean, we may be the same strength, but I look better strong. We can agree on that, right? I got all the best parts of hellish handsomeness, so I can probably pick up guys and gals better than he can. Probably satisfy them better in bed too. (Lye Note: this one might be true on account of things I saw when he was first summoned that I can't unsee, though I doubt his behavior would keep anyone for long.)
I can fly, as per these wings. They aren't just for show. I'd like to see Civil do that. I'd consider myself a 'learning' flier (Lye Note: which is totally not cope because he crashes a lot) so maybe I'll fly you out for a fun time.
I have access to magic from the Hells, which is pretty cool. Fire, portals, enchantments, trickery, if it's hellish I can do it. However, Asmodeus says that I should 'learn over time' so I can only do the important and low power stuff, not any awesome things like blowing up a city...yet. (Lye Note: It should be noted that Livic's most powerful feature is his access to hellish magic, but he is clearly limited to prevent wild devils like him to run amok. He is capable of teleporting at will to the hells, but that is pretty much his most powerful magic.)
And finally, I can do something Civ could never do: go over the speed limit. I am truly the better of us two, am I not? (Lye Note: Livic clearly has an ego, take what he says with a grain of salt. While he may be a devil and have magic, I doubt he is much better than Civil in the mental department. I asked him to do a math problem and he repeatedly tried to avoid it, so I assume he has basically no proper education and runs entirely on charisma alone.)
