Yesterdayâs day trip led us to Aspen, Colorado!
A huge bucket list item of mine is to see the Maroon Bells, but I will have to wait for another trip. The road leading to the lake is closed during the snow season. However, we did spot wild elk and a magpie hanging out with them! Itâs a low quality phone pic, but I loved seeing them in the wild.
Fun fact: North Carolina introduced elk back into the Appalachian region years ago. It has created a herd that lives in Cherokee, right after you enter the Smoky Mountains National Park. I have visited these elk many many times, but they tend to hang out in town and it feels more like a visit to the zoo than seeing them in the wild. (Nevertheless I still love them)
But seeing elk out here in CO was so cool. I felt like I truly saw them in the wild for the first time.
