Satan had lost count of how many sighs had escaped him this past hour. He’d been looking after MC this afternoon and sits on the creaky couch in the common room. MC was on the floor by the coffee table, her small body leaning over it with crayons and paper.

Of course, the day before her birthday, everyone was busy with preparations as well as their own things. Satan had already visited Purgatory Hall to ask Luke to bake a cake and the others to help with decorations. And now it was his duty to keep MC occupied.

Earlier, Satan had tried teaching MC to play chess but she wasn’t having any of it, claiming it was too confusing. And when he started reading his book aloud to her, she politely told him to shut up. The same book was still in his hand; however, the page hadn’t been turned over as he was yet to fully concentrate on the words.

He could say it’s because Belphie’s sleep mumbling was distracting him – his youngest brother lay on the opposite couch with his leg hanging off. But deep down Satan knows that it was MC’s hesitant attitude towards him that stops his brain from focusing.

“Hey, MC,” He closes the book with a soft clap and rests forward on his knees. “Are you sure you don’t want to play chess again?”

“No, that’s boring.” She says, not once lifting her eyes from her drawings.

“Are you hungry? We can go get something to eat.”

“I’m not hungry.”
