chapter three.

You’d thought they’d left - all the memories of him.  Packed into cardboard boxes and plastic bins, folded between clothes and bare picture frames.     

You realise now, they’d only been hiding, waiting for his return.  

The smell of your perfume.  His favourite one, strawberry jam and cosy cedar wood.  It calls to moments together, of his face buried into the side of your neck.  Wandering hands and wondrous laughter, warmth crowding everywhere.  The wet of his teeth against your skin as he’d smile.  Springtime and Sunday matinees, fresh picked fruit and messy kisses.  

The mirror in your hallway - the one you’d taken too many photos in front of, that’d you almost broke one drunken stumbling night.  The one he’d loved you breathless in, with a hand at your throat and another on your waist.  Where he’d whisper sweet nothings with eyes only for you.  Where your little piece of paradise was preserved by a pretty iron frame. 

The tee shirt that you’d washed and promised to return but never had, keeping it as a trophy.  A rightful reminder of his love.  How it fits you just right without fitting you at all, comfortable and lazy and effortless.  A mirror image to the one he wears now.

A sweet, innocent angel, one who’d knocked shyly on your door and presented you with a small selection of chocolates when he’d moved into the apartment next to yours. Your heart had gone boom boom at the sight of that cute smile, the slip of teeth, the way his lovely face had scrunched up. 

Nowadays, whenever you see that face, you want to punch it.

A/N: Hi all!!! I decided to split this into two parts because it was taking me so long and I needed a break but didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer. I should have the next part up this weekend! also I was really anxious to post so I’m sorry if it’s not super edited. I will do a read through when I wake up tomorrow.

The anticipation for what awaits you is agonizing. There is a heaviness in your heart. It is a painful pounding that beats furiously against your breast. It reminds you of everything you have to lose tonight. It reminds you that too much has been left unsaid between you for far too long.

But there is no guarantee that any of it would matter anyway. He is to become a king, after all. What would a king want with a heart as delicate as your own? What use does a king have for a woman like you? A human woman at that. One whose presence could very well mar the crown he will soon wear and everything it stands for.

It does not matter to many that you are no ordinary woman. Your blood is as blue as the ocean is deep but you are a human all the same. How could a werewolf as powerful and revered as Jungkook ever hold his head high with an interloper for a bride? Surely there would be outrage amongst the members of the pack. Surely you would be the cause of far more stress than your tender heart is worth. No, a king needs domain over his kingdom, not the love of a human.

But loving him is not something you can so easily abandon. It expands well beyond what you can fit in that silly heart of yours. It has been growing steadily inside of you since the innocence of your youth. It started way back when Jungkook was still a ruddy cheeked runt who used to chase you through his family’s orchard. It has matured since then, just as you have after all these years. It is deeper now, desperate even. It begs to be unleashed and reciprocated with an equal vigour.

The smell of cigarette smoke was overwhelming in his bedroom despite the incense he had that he swore would mask the smell, it clearly wasn’t doing much. You were sat facing him on the floor, your legs tucked underneath your bum as you held the clamp to his lip and held a needle in your other hand, “Dude, don’t you think you should, I don’t know…take that out of your mouth when I do this?” 

His eyes looked everywhere but at you, bouncing around the posters on his wall to his dirty hamper in the corner, literally anywhere but your eyes because he was terrified. “It helps calm my nerves, there’s no way in hell I’m taking this out of my mouth. Thanks for the shitty suggestion though.”

“Shouldn’t we figure out the details of,” you gestured around, unable to quite find the words, “you know.”

Jeon Jungkook paused before smiling at you. “Want to make this as quick as possible, don’t you?”

“Yes,” you said without missing a beat.

He raised a brow at you, clearly amused. “So embarrassed to be seen with me in public, huh?”

And again, “Yes.”

This time, Jeon Jungkook didn’t follow up your reply with a chuckle, but rather snorted and ran a hand through his hair.

“Well, I appreciate your honesty,” he said with a tilt of his head, and reached for the cup of coffee he had offered to you just seconds ago. You cringed when he smacked his lips together, the sound making your entire skin crawl.

“Okay, so, tell me,” Jeon Jungkook said and gestured for you to go on. You blinked at him and furrowed your brows.

“What’s that supposed to mean? What am I supposed to tell you?” you asked with a slight edge in your voice.

“Oh, who are you trying to fool, Y/N?” Jeon Jungkook smiled. “Let’s not pretend like you haven’t drawn up a contract or something already and written down every condition you’ve got. I see you with your colour coordinated flash cards and folders and super neat and rewritten notes.”

“How do you know I colour-” You clammed your mouth shut and shook your head. “Whatever.”

“I’m right, am I not?” Jeon Junkook asked and you weren’t sure if you cursed underneath your breath because when you leaned down to unzip your bag, your zipper jammed or because of him. After a few tries, you managed to unzip your bag and with a hollow thud, you threw your notebook on the table before flipping it open.

You didn’t bother to turn it around when Jeon Jungkook tried to read what you had already written down, but judging from his smile, he had, surprisingly, no problem.

“’Y/L/N Y/N’s And Jeon Jungkook’s Fake Dating Contract’, huh?” Jeon Jungkook laughed, smug as ever, and raised his brows at you, giving you a look. “Why ‘Y/L/N’s and Jeon Jungkook’s’? Don’t tell me you’ve got fake dating contracts with other people as well.”

“Plenty,” you deadpanned.
