76. “You need to wake up because I can’t do this without you.”

“Eddie.”

“Fucking what?! Oh my god!” Steve reels back as Eddie’s hand shoots ups from the bed to slap at him, his eyes still scrunched tight. Steve tries to hold in a laugh.

“You need to wake up, babe. We gotta get out of here.”

Instead of waking up, Eddie burrows even further down in his pillow.

“Kids are gonna be waiting for us.”

When “Mmph.” Is the only response Steve rolls his eyes and shifts so he’s laying across Eddie’s back instead of sitting beside him, head tucked right next to his ear.

“Babe,” he whispers. “Let’s gooooo.”

“And people say I’m the annoying one in this relationship,” Eddie says, voice muffled.

“What? Who says that?” No answer. Steve sits up and muscles Eddie onto his back, pins his hands down. Eddie does not appreciate it, bucking up under him, but he’s no match for where Steve’s thighs hold him.

“Get off me, asshole,” he says, but he’s smiling.

“Nope, tell me who said that.”

“What’re you gonna do, beat them up?”

“I might.” Eddie twists his hands out of Steve’s, reverses the grip and pulls Steve so their faces almost touch. Steve nips at his bottom lip, teasing.

“What if it was Robin who said it,” Eddie asks between lazy kisses.

“Oh in a heartbeat.” Kiss.

“Mike?” Kiss.

“I’d pay for the privilege.” Kiss.

“Lucas?”

No kiss. Steve scoffs instead. “Would never say that. Same for Will.”

“Nancy?” Eddie says, tugging Steve’s hand to his mouth.

“She’d probably kill me.” Steve’s distracted by Eddie attempting to suck a bruise on his wrist, then he narrows his eyes. “Wait, was it Nancy?”

Eddie quirks an eyebrow at him. “If it was?”

Nancy and Eddie get along fine, but they’ve definitely had their differences where it concerns what’s best for Steve. He lets them argue over him because they seem to get a kick out of it, and meanwhile he does whatever he wants. Or, more accurately, what Robin and he decide he wants. But if Nancy’s actually saying shit like that to Eddie, Steve wants to know.

“Was it,” he asks again, and tugs his wrist away, leaving Eddie pouting. “Serious, Ed.”

Eddie’s eyes soften and he cradles Steve’s cheek, fond. “Baby, no.”

“Good. Cause I’d look down the very short barrel of her shotgun for you.” He grins and goes back in for another kiss.

“You’re too good to me.”

“Could never be too good to you,” he says low in Eddie’s ear. Then, with a smacking kiss, Steve sits up, swings his legs to the floor. “But you gotta get up! I can’t do this without you.”

Eddie flings his arm across his eyes dramatically. “I take it back, you’re cruel and unusual.”

“If you’re not out of this bed in the next three minutes, I’m not sucking your dick for a week,” Steve threatens from where he’s now rummaging through their closet.

Eddie springs up to sitting. “A week?!”

“A week for every minute after three you’re not up.”

“Steve,” he says, horrified.

Steve emerges from the closet with his prize. “Try me, Munson.”

“Fine, I’m up, I’m up!”

Steve tosses a shirt and jeans to him and shoves him toward the bathroom.

“Go shower. If you’re not out in ten minutes, I’m coming in after you.”

“Is that a promise?”

Before Steve can answer, the walk-in next to the bed starts to crackle. “Steve, Eddie, are you there? Come in. Over.”

“What’s up, Dust?” Steve spies Eddie listening at the door and shoos him away.

“What’s your twenty? We’re dying here, man. Over.”

“We’ll get there when we get there, keep your pants on.”

“You keep your pants on, Steve. Spacetown Adventures waits for no man! Over.”

Steve groans at the reminder of where they’re headed today with six hyperactive teenagers and minimal adult supervision in the middle of a sweltering Indiana summer. He hits the talk button on the walkie.

“We’ll be there in 15 minutes, you little shits better be ready.” At that moment, Eddie walks back in the room, hair wet, clothes in hand, his entire body bare and glistening. Steve snatches the walkie back to his mouth.

“Make that 45. Over and out.”

like just to be clear, we all are sitting around with the knowledge that Kaz crashing into the water like that is like for sure going to transition directly into a harbor flash back right?
