Hey, so did you guys know you can compress images into gen 1 pokemon sprites using this website?

It can be a little fiddly sometimes, and it's best if you shrink your image down to the early games' 56x56 pokemon sprite resolution first. But it's pretty interesting! I'll show some of my experimenting with it under "read more".

Here was my first attempt, using Monster Hunter Rise's icon for Tigrex (and shrinking a little smaller than 56x56):

Hey! It turned out pretty good! My expectation is that things that are bold and stylized without too much small/subtle detail will work best for this.

My 2nd one was a drawing of Bartholomew from Catz I did last year, which illustrates this a bit with what works and what doesn't:

This one could be cleaned up to look a bit nicer, but off the bat it doesn't look that great.

Here's Mizutsune, also from Monster Hunter Rise. I figured I'd have more luck there:

It... looks pretty crunchy. But this time, I actually DID go and do some cleaning up myself, and with a few tweaks it looks really nice!

Looking back at it, maybe the slightly smaller crop of Tigrex I used played to its advantage in the conversion.

Colour and shading will have a lot to do with how it will come out, because Teostra here has a lot of similar shades of different colours and few clear lines. As a result, he blends together:

But then he fits with the style of gen 1 the least so far anyways. This is also why I chose specifically Monster Hunter Rise: other MH games tend not to have outlines on their monster icons, just different colours.

If anyone else tries stuff out with this I'd love to see it ^^
