Its Been A While Since The Whole J.K Rowling Controversy Happened But A While Back I Was Having A Conversation

It’s been a while since the whole J.K Rowling controversy happened but a while back I was having a conversation with my auntie about it and I wasn’t out yet but I said she was transphobic because she is and my auntie said that she didn’t think Rowling was transphobic. To this is said that my transgender friends had told me that she was (it was actually me knowing she was but I was too scared to say anything) but she didn’t listen. Imagine ignoring the marginalised peoples opinions on issues that involve them. This is one small example but this happened every.single.day and it’s got to a government level where the people in power believe they know more than us on issues that directly affect us. Imagine a pigeon telling a mole how to correctly dig a hole and think about how ridiculous that is. To the government: get your shit together

It’s funny seeing cis (usually white) women saying shit like “cis privilege isn’t a thing” or “where’s my cis privilege?”. First off it’s annoying to see cis white women act like they’re the most oppressed people in society, and also being trans can be a literal death sentence even in more developed countries like the UK or US. Cis women don’t have an attempted suicide rate of 40% due to society not being accepting of them. trans people do. Cis women don’t get murdered because someone was attracted to them and then found out they were “lying”. Trans women do. Cis women aren’t getting their rights taken away from them like trans people are. This is cis privilege. You have the privilege of going through life without the hardships of society not accepting you as you are and actively working to eradicate people like you. Yes, women are oppressed -women of colour especially- but being able to call yourself a women without people objecting is a privilege.

I hope Rishi Sunak knows that almost the entirety of the UK disagrees with his statement that “The UK stands with [Isreal]” because we don’t. When a significant amount of your country is the victim of colonisation, why would we stand with the colonisers? When our cultures have been suppressed and been illegal, why would we stand with the people suppressing and destroying the Palestinian culture?

As a rich Tory, Rishi Sunak doesn’t understand the average British person and what we think, but after all the outrage, I think he might be forced to.

One of the many reasons I love Miriam

Source ~ @/pinknews on TikTok

[Video Transcript:

Miriam Margolyes on The Graham Norton Show.

Miriam: "You know this thing about trans? Now all these people will always say 'we mustn't talk about trans', well fuck that. I'm gonna talk about it." (Audience laughter)

"I was very keen on grammar and so when people started talking about pronouns and that they wanted to use 'them' and not 'he/she', I thought 'what the fuck are you talking about?' It is clear, it's grammar. It's the structure of language.

"But I met a wonderful actress in Australia, Zoe Terakes, do you know who I mean? She's a brilliant actress and she's trans and I - she had a discussion with me about it and she said 'what does it matter to you? If you can make somebody happy by calling them 'they' instead of 'he' or 'she', why not do it?

"And I thought 'that's right.' It doesn't matter about grammar." (Applause) "if you can make someone happy and give them a sense of themselves then do it."

Boy George, sitting beside her: "Absolutely."

Miriam: "And so, I'm now somebody who uses they and all the rest of it. Whatever they want me to say, I'll say it."
