When I look in the mirror I don't see a woman or a girl. I see a prepubescent boy. That boy who, around the age of 10, began the puberty of a biological woman; the countdown to a life that was never his began. The boy who then froze in time, waiting to be given a second chance at life. A chance that may never come. When I look in the mirror I see the 16 years that I will never get back. I see a fog filled with hatred towards my reflection, towards my touch, towards my body that ecapsulates that time. I see the fog filled with a desire to run away. I see this fog filled with helplessness and the lack of vocabulary that would hopefully enablesomeone, anyone to help understand it. Someone grown up and responsible and caring. Someone whose hand could pry this little boy from the fog. When I look in the mirror I see hope in this boy, hope that with a bit of luck someone will finally unfreeze him from his eternal childhood. He won't get those 16 years back, but maybe at least he can finally start living the life he's always should've. The life he always deserved. The way he deserves. A hope that at least he will get back the chance to live, a chance that was so suddenly, brutally taken away from him. With no way of stopping it. ‘It's happening and you have to accept it’ just as his mother said when handing him his first bra, he had to accept that his life would be taken over by someone else, a complete stranger. It's just biological processes, but for him it was a final judgment. I can't wait for the day when, looking in the mirror, I see that this boy has finally got back his chance to grow up.
