     𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝'𝐯𝐞  𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧  𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭  𝐡𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐢𝐞  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠  𝐟𝐨𝐫  𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚,     the  way  he  just  lit  up  whenever  he  spoke  about  her,  the  excited  way  he  talked  about  and  other  the  past  year  since  he  had  been  working  with  her,  they  had  been  pretty  much  inseperable.     it  was  a  complete  shock  to  find  out  that  she  was  the  supe  behind  the  attack  on  congress,  the  head  popper  that  the  boys  had  been  searching  for  since  they  did  not  believe  it  was  actually  stormfront  like  vought  had  stated.     annie  had  no  idea  how  hughie  was  dealing  with  that  information,  clearly  not  well  considering  the  fact  he  had  asked  kimiko  to  break  his  arm  to     𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝     her.     it  should   be  a  good  thing  that  he  was  in  love  with  someone,  she  had  always  thought  the  two  of  them  were  sweet  together  and  she  never  had  seen  him  smiling  so  much.     but  seems  like  things  could  never  just  be  simple  for  them,  could  it?     people  were  always  much  more  complicated  than  what  they  seemed  and  they  just  couldn't  seem  to  catch  a  break.     annie  smiled  at  him,  loving  that  he  actually  admitted  it  to  her,  laughing  softly  at  him  not  wanting  butcher  to  find  out,     "     i  should've  known,  you  always  had  that  dumb,  cute  little  smile  on  your  face  whenever  she  was  around  and  whenever  you  talk  about  her     .     .     .     and  for  what  it  is  worth,  i  think  she's  crazy  about  you  too,     "

     𝐲𝐞𝐭  𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞  𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝  𝐚𝐧𝐝  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝  𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡  𝐚  𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧,     her  own  smile  disappeared  because  he  was  right,  they  really  were  screwed  and  it  seemed  like  they  were  both  worried  about  the  same  person  finding  out,  billy  butcher.     annie  didn't  even  want  to  think  what  butcher     𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭     do  if  he  found  out  the  truth  about  her  and  homelander,  or  what  he  might  do  to  hughie  if  he  knew  that  he  was  in  love  with  victoria.     fuck,  it  was  messed  up  and  she  really  wished  she  didn't  have  to  feel  that  kind  of  fear  about  butcher  and  what  he  could  do.     she  knew  that  he  wouldn't  exactly  hesitate  to  hurt  her,  he  had  tried  before  and  it  would  be  better  for  him  knowing  if  hurting  her  would  have  an  effect  on  homelander.     annie  sighed  softly,  tucking  blonde  strands  of  hair  behind  her  ear,     "     trust  me,  i  know.     but  i  don't  think  butcher  would  hurt  you,  hughie,     "     though  she  doubted  that  it  was  really  him  that  he  was  worried  about  butcher  hurting.     even  though  he  would  be  insane  to  try  and  go  after  victoria  considering  what  she  could  do.     but  she  knew  what  butcher  was  capable  of,  she  wouldn't  be  surprised  if  he  tried  something.

     𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞  𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐝  𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐥𝐲,     shaking  her  head  as  she  moved  over  to  him,  looking  up  at  him  with  a  softer  look  on  her  face,     "     what  are  you  gonna  do?     'cause  you  can't  avoid  her  forever  and  this  dramatic  of  way  to  avoid  her  seems  kinda  over  the  top,     "     she  pointed  out,  trying  to  keep  things  a  little  lighter  because  if  they  really  went  down  that  path  about  what  butcher  might  do.     it  wasn't     𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡     the  stress  or  the  anxiety.     but  she  also  wasn't  going  to  let  hughie  run  away  from  something  that  was  actually  good,  even  if  victoria  neuman  was  dangerous  in  her  own  way.     she  had  no  room  to  judge  considering  she  was  in  love  with  homelander,  who  was the  most  dangerous  supe  they  know  of  and  yet  she  just  couldn't  stay  away,     "     hughie,  she  must  have  had  her  reasons  for  not  telling  you  the  truth.     but  avoiding  her  isn't  going  to  make  things  better.     kinda  surprised  she's  not  come  and  checked  up  on  you  herself,     "

     𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬  𝐰𝐚𝐬  𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬  𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠  𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐝  𝐭𝐨  𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝,     family  made  sense  and  it  was  something  she  felt  like  she  didn't  necessarily  have  to  think  about  too  hard.     but  friends  and  romance  was  something  she  hadn't  really  given  much  thought.     it  seemed  to  come  so  easy  to  zachariah,  he  had  all  the  charm  and  that  boyish  smile  that  drew  people  in.     naomi  didn't  have  that,  she  knew  that  and  for  the  most  part,  she  hadn't  cared.     until  she  came  to  goldolkin  university  and  she  felt  like  she  had  been     𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠     out  on  something.     zach  had  always  talked  about  all  his  friends  and  the  things  they  all  did,  as  much  as  she  might  have  thought  he  was  lying,  he  always  had  photos  to  back  up  what  he  was  saying.     he  had  thrived  at  god  u,  top  of  his  class,  always  first  ranked  and  he  was  popular.     whereas  she  felt  like  she  was  drowning  here.     everyone  had  all  these  expectations  of  who  she  was,  thought  they  already  knew  her,  or  just  wanted  something  from  her.     she  didn't  know  who  to  trust  and  who  she  could  actually  rely  on.     maybe  her  dad  was  right.     she  didn't  need  friends,  she  didn't  really  need  anyone  else.     but  at  least  her  dad  had  her  mom,  she  wanted  her     𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞     like  that.     which  she  had  never  thought  she  was  going  to  get  until  she  met  boomer.

     𝐡𝐞  𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲  𝐬𝐚𝐰  𝐡𝐞𝐫  𝐟𝐨𝐫  𝐰𝐡𝐨  𝐬𝐡𝐞  𝐰𝐚𝐬,     he  didn't  care  who  her  parents  were  and  who  her  brother  was.     boomer  actually  made  her  feel  like  she  was  a  person,  whose  opinion  mattered  and  he  had  no  expectations  for  her.     no  one  had  surprised  her  as  much  as  he,  he  quite  literally  swept  her  off  her  feet,  which  for  someone  who  could  fly,  it  wasn't  exactly  easy  for  her  to  feel  like  that.     but  him  coming  to  her   like  this  made  her  feel  like  she  was     𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞  𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠     and  there  was  no  way  she  could  catch  herself.     was  this  why  she  shouldn't  get  attached?     naomi  had  to  tell  herself  not  to  panic,  there  had  to  be  an  explanation  as  to  why  he  was  saying  goodbye.     fuck.     where  was  he  going  and  why  couldn't  she  go  with  him?     no.     no.     she  hadn't  really  needed  anyone  before  him  and  she  would  be  fine  after  he  was  gone.     but  naomi  knew  that  she  could  tell  herselt  that  as  much  as  she  want,  she  knew  the     𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡     and  she  didn't  want  to  be  without  him.

     𝐧𝐚𝐨𝐦𝐢  𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐤  𝐡𝐞𝐫  𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝,     frowning  at  him  as  green  eyes  stay  focused  on  him,  just  trying  to  figure  out  exactly  what  he  could've  meant  by  this.     stay  calm,  do  not  lose  yourself  or  overreact.     she  sighed  softly,  hands  coming  to  rub  her  face  for  a  moment,  she  couldn't  let  herself  be  vulnerable,  not  right  now,     "     what  do  you  mean  goodbye?     where  are  you  going?     "     she  asked,  hating  how  voice  had  that  weird  neediness  but  she  was  trying  to  cover  and  it  was  so     𝐨𝐛𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬     to  her,  which  meant  that  he  could  absolutely  see  her  trying  to  keep  it  together.     her  eyes  got  blurred  for  a  moment  because  something  about  this  felt  final,  he  wasn't  just  going  away  for  a  week  and  then  coming  back.     people  didn't  say  goodbye  like  this  if  they  planned  on  coming  back.     boomer  was  leaving  and  she  had  no  way  to  stop  him,  she  had  more  strength  than  most  people  she  knew  and  yet  she  wasn't  strong  enough  to  handle  this,     "     you  can't  go.     you  can't     .     .     .     you're  not  allowed  to  say  goodbye  'cause  you're  not  going  anywhere,  please,     "
