Ally: Loremaster Sargratir, and his quest for the Cosmispherium
“I have spent my years in careful study of the artistry and craft by which the Allhammer made this world, and the beautiful truths he worked into its foundations the way a smith layers metal to create strong steel. I share this knowledge with you so that it may be improved upon in the passing, like the skill of a master refined and codified by its instruction to the apprentice.
Setup: This dwarven sage has long been an ally of those who would see the world kept in a peaceful equilibrium, making his own small contributions to the fight against wickedness while perusing a peaceful life of study and scholarship from is isolated manse.
When the party needs guidance, answers, or just a friendly reassurance that everything will be alright in the end, Sargratir is there to provide it, along with a long winded parable and a hot cup of tea that’s sure to have gone cold before he’s finished.
Adventure Hooks:
Every adventuring party eventually comes up against unknown forces, and are likely to be directed to Sargratir should these threats have their basis in history, arcanum, or the prime elementia of the cosmos. He is free with his knowledge, and can provide quite a few answers, but may ask for payment in the form of rare volumes, or asking the party to seek out oracles and other knowledge bases on his behalf.
Sargratir is a devoted cleric and acomplished wizard, and is willing to tutor prospective students in either discipline, seeing no real distinction between study or prayer. His specialties are in abjuration and creation, and he can instruct others in the creation of enchanted objects, the setting of powerful wards, and the secret truths that can protect the mind and reality from the infectious madness of primordial chaos.
In the later centuries of his life, The sage Sargratir has become interested in a fabled tower of knowledge known as the Cosmispherium, the grand work of several master wizards that like him longed to understand the fundamentals of the universe. Part observatory, part archive, part celestial orrery, this ancient construction was said to be hidden from all, for fear that lesser minds would turn its discovery into a weapon. The Loremaster seeks any information he can on this lost wonder, and may one day ask the party to mount an expedition to its suspected location, should the need be great enough.
