@emily1037's post questioning where Ash and Goh's hands are (and what it looks like) does bring about a very crucial question...

Are the animators being sneaky with the hand placements?? 🤔

The animators do enjoy putting Ash and Goh close to each other, or so it looks like! Nobody else (person or pokémon!) is standing as close as Ash and Goh are. Not only does it look like the boys could be holding hands, but it's at the very moment the Wish move is being used. The move itself isn't relevant; just the name of the move.

Couples are known to hold hands while making wishes. 😊

Going back to episode 69...

I still stand by my opinion that it looks like Ash places his hand on top of Goh's (in a scene where he's giving Goh emotional support) for a brief moment. He had already placed a hand on his shoulder while speaking (what we assume to be supportive words as his mouth moves but there's no actual dialogue, only BGM), so is it really that much of a stretch to say the animators may have wanted to give the appearance (but not be too obvious with it) of Ash's hand resting on the top of Goh's? After all, this is something real people do in emotionally difficult situations.

Here's another, from episode 66:

At first, both of Ash's hands clearly appear on back of the chair...

Ash tries cheering Goh up (and it works! 🤗) with a smile, supportive words... and possibly, a hand that's gone from the back of the chair to the back part of Goh's shoulder - once again, the act of placing a hand on the shoulder of someone that's emotionally upset is common, so could Ash be doing that here to further reinforce that he's here for Goh during a difficult time? I think so. 🥰

It's true that the animators don't always shy away from having the boys touch...

I think though the distinction here is it comes down to context and by that I mean depending on the scene, the touching could be seen as more intimate (especially when, say, Goh is sad and Ash wants to make him feel better) vs. the more carefree and happy situations where it could just be seen as two close friends having a good time.

Any touching that takes place during a scene that is meant to carry more emotional weight could have to be more hidden, or obscured, so that it really isn't noticeable... unless someone is really looking for it, and even then, the animators can essentially take the position of plausible deniability. This, of course, would imply that one or more individuals involved with the anime is intentionally pushing the idea of Ash and Goh having a very special connection to each other and that it's a type of connection that Ash hasn't had with anyone before. The only way to do this in an anime aimed at young kids and with an IP that is jointly owned with Nintendo is to be subtle. Very subtle.
