And resenting the creators of a thing because your personal fantasies about the thing didn’t come true is pathetic.
Yes, the story meant a lot to you, I get it. But at the end of the day, that is because YOU decided to become so personally attached and possessive over SOMEBODY ELSE’S work. They didn’t make it to adhere to your fantasies. They made it to tell the story THEY wanted to tell.
You just decided it was yours, instead. But you don’t get to make that decision.

Hands are probably going to be the most deforming thing on your mesh so it’s important to have geometry that facilitates deformation there. If you can think about the proper topology that certain joints and bends are going to have then all you really have to think of is modeling the topology that bridges these joints. The wrist finger and palm are expected to bend and deform in generally the same radial way while the palm is kinda just a soft blob that is going to be absorbing the tensions for the thumb’s two axis of radial movement from the wrist. Here’s a gif I made showing how different geometries facilitate certain deformations. The middle one is the one that I use probably the most for knees and elbows.
For fingers I also use a variation of the middle topology to really give the knuckles of the finger that volume feel at the cost of pinching on the other side. But this is safe to do with fingers since if the fingers are clenching that you probably aren’t looking at that side of the fingers anyways. It also really depends on what kind of style that you’re going for and if you are doing subdivision modeling. This puts most of the stretching on the outer knuckle(so if there was a texture there it would appropriately stretch and compress just like in real life) and the pinching happens on the inner knuckle(which is mostly unseen).
This is the same hand topology I used for my Corfagrigus model(four hands!). The fingers were mostly bending inwards so I used the topology of the above gif which put all the major stretching and deformation on the outer knuckle of the joint to maintain a silhouette.
And for Apsis’s monster-claws as well give special attention to the outer deformations with the same facilitating “Y” shaped topology and facilitates with the stretching that would occur if her fists were to be fully clenched. Though it seems the topology is hidden in the “knuckle-spikes” details, the topology is actually there.
Also a peek at the knees which use the middle option of the first gif which contain all the major stretching/compression and deformation to only happen behind the knees.
Here’s a hand I made for a commission I’m working on right now. This is subdivision modeled and is stylized with attention to the silhouette so when it isn’t smoothed it looks a lot more bloated and silly than it actually is but the simplified topology is still there.
The nature of subdivided surfaces allow you to do all sorts of facilitating topology tricks and can handle stretching and pinching much better due to the nature of implicit surfaces. A lot of the time it even works in your favor and appears to simulate actually deforming flesh or clothing.
As an example of this here’s a variation of the middle option with an added loop to collapse into which adds the pinching effect while the triangle-shaped 4-sided polygons on either side of it somewhat “contain” the pinching to only happen there.
Here’s the topology above flattened out so you can see that the two quads on either side of this added loop are encompassing the compression happening at that loop.
And finally here is that hand smoothened.
This is a stylized render so there’s no details on the knuckles but I have enough geometry there to support the deformations that will happen should any of the fingers clench. The palm has an extra loop that wraps around to the top of the hand to support any swivelling that the thumb might do and “contain” any deformations it would do to the rest of the hand. Same goes for the “webbing” between the fingers.
So I guess the main tip is to try and facilitate the anticipated deformations of your joints and to try and “contain” deformation movement as much as possible within your topology so you can work with the changes in volume and shape. Then most of the rest of your geometry is mostly linking the surfaces between these joints. Model it’s movement.
My inner child is happy with forces. A lot of adults seem to forget kids will get this game. This game will actually make kids happy. They get to make themselves in the game and Sonic is so nice to them and cheers them on. To kids that like sonic he is their hero. Kids will love this.
I’m only on Stage 10 of the game (I’m very bad at games but I play anyways) and so far I am absolutely 100% in LOVE with this game. This game is everything… EVERYTHING… that I as a fanfic writer and reader, as an artist, as a creator of fan characters and AUs. As a lover of all things Sonic story related. As someone who loves the world and the lore and the characters.
I. LOVE. SONIC. FORCES.

This game is a love letter to Sonic’s biggest, longest running and most mocked demographic. The little kids dreaming of running beside their favourite heroes (maybe even developing crushes on them). The tweens who get told they’re ‘too old for that stuff’ but cling to it anyway because it makes them happy and, hey, in this world, I’m a hero, too! I’m important! The teens who spend hours writing stories or reading them because they need MORE of this world that they feel important and crucial to. The twenty-somethings who fear their coworkers finding out about their RP group where they have a million ships and who go ‘oh, I watch TV and read’ when asked how they wind down after work. The older fans, like myself, who have been here since Day 1, as those wide eyed teenagers falling in love with the colours and the world. The ones who cut their story telling teeth on SatAM and the Archie comics and Fleetway comics.
Sonic Forces is a game made, out of love, for every fan who’s ever been laughed at for liking Sonic.
It’s a game for kids like my daughter, who has a gigantic crush on Sonic and Shadow and who’s greatest disappointment watching her brother play Sonic Mania was ‘Sonic never talks. He has such a nice voice, why won’t he talk?’
A game for an adult like me who has been told, for years and years, by friends and outside sources and random jerks on the internet that she was stupid for doing Sonic art. That Sonic fanfic was a waste. That OCs and fan characters were cringy and childish and would ruin your life if you made them. Who put these things away under years and YEARS of abuse and is pulling them out of their boxes and dusting them off and re-embracing them and remembering what she loved so much about just putting herself in the stories. How GOOD it felt. How FUN it was. And how it didn’t hurt a single soul.
Sonic Forces is amazing. It’s important. It’s incredible. (Though man, the jumping could use some work…)
Even if they never make a game like this again… I will cling to this one and treasure it above all over Sonic games.
They’ve told me it’s okay to be the Sonic fan I am. SEGA sees us, acknowledges us and accepts us. They care about us, too. Just like putting ourselves into the story to capture the feeling… we’re actually important, too.

First of all, saying that there’s no way is ignorant because there IS a way to fix it, if only people knew about it publicly and breed clubs embraced it.
These are called Retro Mops (website here), and they’re pugs bred specifically to be longer-legged, leaner, with smaller eyes, longer muzzles, and more open nostrils. And while the project is still a work in progress, it’s heading in the right direction.
This new breed type started in Germany, and developed from the selective breeding of purebred pugs with longer muzzles and a longer legged frame.
From the website:
“We want to prove that a pug does not have to be short of breath and phlegmatic, but a very sporty and docile family and companion dog”
And there’s also the Old English Bulldog, which is a muscular and athletic bulldog that can actually clean itself, mate, and give birth on its own (something that mainstream Bulldogs cannot do)
This should be the goal of EVERY pug breeder and owner, to have a healthy dog that doesn’t struggle to breathe and walk.
I’m sure you’re a pug or bulldog lover, which is why you’re so eager to defend them, but you’re not helping these dogs out by ignoring the problems in the breed. This is not a “little problem”, it’s a HUGE issue that’s killing dogs, and it’s prefectly preventable if pugs were outcrossed to have longer muzzles and wider nostrils.
Just look at the difference and tell me you’re not horrified:
As long as people stay blind to these issues, nothing will change. Which is why I’m saying this here so at least some people will see that there IS an alternative, and that wheezing pugs and bulldogs are not cute. When the public realizes the difference, the demand for these mutants will stop and more healthy, longer-lived alternatives will replace them.
But it starts with someone talking about them, and not just thinking there’s nothing to be done. Although if there were a time machine at my disposal you bet I’d use to pinch the nostrils of the original Victorian breeders and see how they like it.
