Im Going To Read The Talented Mr Ripley By Patricia Highsmith... Im So Excited!! I Bought The Book Solely
im going to read the talented mr ripley by patricia highsmith... im so excited!! i bought the book solely bc the review on the front claimed the protagonist is "amoral, hedonistic and charming" (all things i LOVE in an mc)!! also the mc is supposedly schizophrenic, so im excited to see how that plays in... although im kinda scared for the schizophrenia rep as the book was published in 1955..
either way im actually screaming this is so exciting!!

I'll constantly see people list of disorders that cause psychosis and talk about how they're highly stigmatized and somehow they never ever mention bipolar disorder? ever? and it's almost certainly because people online tend to have this perception of bipolar as the "socially acceptable sad happy disease" and it is not. it is just not. bipolar disorder is so incredibly stigmatized and its symptoms go so much deeper than just "sad and happy"
did you know bipolar causes psychosis?
do you know what mania actually is? (hint: it's not "extremely happy"!)
did you know bipolar causes hypersexuality?
did you know bipolar causes aggression?
did you know bipolar causes generally socially unacceptable behavior?
did you know bipolar people are more likely to kill themselves in a manic episode than in a depressive episode?
did you know bipolar causes a thousand other highly stigmatized symptoms?
did you know that after my bipolar disorder diagnosis people started gossiping about how I was "unstable" and therefore "untrustworthy" and I was "erratic" and "a liability"? would you guess that these things were said by a progressive activist group who were "anti-ableism"? does this all sound like an destigmatized mental illness to you?
does it????
I’m psychotic. I mean that literally I experience psychosis.
I think many people don’t understand that while yes talking to myself is a symptom of my psychosis, it’s also one of my best coping skills.
It’s not scary when I mumble to myself in public, it’s me coping in a way that’s safe for you and me.
Reduce stigma for everyone no matter why someone acts like me but like in my case specifically I promise you prefer me when I can talk to myself.
Psychosis is so much more than hallucinations and delusions.
It's disorganizing phrases and sentences. Instead of saying "I lost my bag" you end up saying "I bag my lost".
It's saying something out loud and hearing it echo in your head, only to completely forget what you said, or why.
It's lacking words and the ability to organize them in a sentence so that they make sense.
It's thinking you wrote something only to find out you wrote something else.
It's suddenly losing track of what you were telling someone, or thinking.
It's unknowingly misreading words, somehow sensing the sentence doesn't make sense, reading it again and realizing you read half the word or a completely different word.
It's your mind going blank and feeling a need to stay still and stare at nothing in particular.
It's repeating words and phrases for no apparent reason.
It's having an insight or remembering something you want/have to do only to lose it within seconds.
It's not being able to tell if something actually happened or it was a dream.
It's not being able to tell if a memory was a dream, a made up story/memory, or an actual situation in which you were experiencing positive symptoms.
It's losing track of time, feeling it goes too slow or too fast, or that it freezes.
"we need more weird queers!!"
you start parroting TERF talking points the milisecond someone says they are a lesboy or gaygirl
you cry when mspec lesbians/gays exist
you refuse to use neopronouns or it/its, even when those are a persons only set of pronouns
you expect a-specs to experience attraction in some way (yes, that includes platonic attraction)
you exclude intersex people
you can't even accept furries.
Friendly (or unfriendly if you're against this) reminder that this blog is supportive of ALL disorders. This blog does not think ANY disorder inherently makes someone a bad person, and is against any disorder being demonized. This blog wholeheartedly believes that a bad person having a disorder, yes, even if things that are also symptoms of their disorder are part of what caused harm, does not make the disorder a "bad" or "evil" disorder or excuse ableism and demonization directed towards the disorder.
