Dark times of the Scaled Sides

It was daytime as a magpie flew in the dark woods. The leaves had fallen covering the normal dirt ground, indicating the seasons she had passed through since the last time she had seen a calendar. The magpie, having felt she had covered enough distance for the day, she changed her shape and called it a day.

Her real shape wasn’t a magpie. Rather a woman with dark black hair with black eyes that seemed to glimmer only upon closer inspection that traces of blue swirl in her eyes. She appeared pretty, but there was so much she was hiding underneath. So much so that she was running all this way out in what appeared to be nowhere. She didn’t care as long as she was away from it all.

Setting her backpack down she started pulling out her things seemingly from such a small backpack that she had enchanted with the undetectable extension charm at the beginning of her trip. Stopping when she hears something snap, she slowly turns her head. With one hand ready to pull her wand at the second she sees if its someone who had been following her. And if it is someone who had been following her, then she wouldn’t hesitate to defend herself if necessary.

“Come out.”

“I don’t know where to get one, but I do know who could help ....” She sighed somewhat unsure. She’s worked with him, and has always kept his word. 

However the last time she had worked with him, she had her soul as a loan until their deal had been completed. Which was 20 years in the completion of the deal. Needless to say, if he could help them out, then it was worth whatever price she had to pay. All for them, Kurt, Logan, Jean and everyone else. 

“Back in the 60, I met a demon, named Asmodeous. He’s a Prince of Hell and also a friend. Maybe he could not only help find out where they are, but maybe what happened to everyone else.”

“But even if we get the equipment, how are we suppose to know if I can even pull it off. My telepathy works on an entirely different level than Charles and Jean did. I never even touched the thing,” She said ruffling her hair. She wasn’t a leader, or powerful in her opinion. But she knew to take initiative and go from there. It seemed like throwing out a couple ideas seemed ok

 “But since it’s similar to talking with a radio, it could work. I’m not sure if I can handle all those people. I may...need help on that,” She said hesitantly.

“If we find them though, where can we provide a safe space? We could place them at my step-dad’s. It’s not as big as Charles’ but it could be enough. At least until we find everyone.”

When Friends Know No Better

“It’s a good thing knowing incense exists, cause I used to do that around the school whenever he smoked in an area. But while I will agree it is nasty, Logan’s body is constantly regenerating, so his lungs are protected in a sense. Still nasty though, not sure why he did it in your guys' kitchen. He’s just an old man who doesn’t give a flip about where he does it as long as he does it.”

“Though not gonna lie, there’s an opportunity for profit on that kind of thing. Maybe make a hot tub product; ‘Hot Storm’. Stay where you are, lemme see what I find, hopefully.”

She disappears around the corner into the other room. A couple minutes later, she comes back, dumping a pile of clothes onto the table, ranging from different eras. However, she keeps a jacket close to her. One with orange rings nearing the sleeves.

“Pick what you like, just avoid any flapper dresses. I don’t think they’re ready for accidental incineration yet.”

“…”

“Do I even wanna know why you guys got started with an insult match, to begin with? Why’d you even try to insult him, to begin with? The guy’s older than me, meaning he has a lot of material than probably the both of us combined.”

“As much as I’d like to have a nice heater, I’d rather it didn’t feel like the tropics in the middle of summer, so lemme see what I can find.”

“Neither do I. But I do have an idea, that’s gonna need me, you and Fury so we don’t have to deal with this or him. And that can also be discussed later.” She relays this to the two of them. She’d deal with the stragglers following them, as long as he found them a decent place to eat.

“If you think you’re the right one for the teacher position, I’m sorry I’m gonna have to tell you to fuck off.” She shrugged nonchalantly. He may be a potentially higher rank than she was but she’s older than him in experience and in age. She had seen too much and it was starting to annoyingly repeat.

“Flags didn’t help save the world, people did. They did it for the people they cared about. The world’s been complicated long before any of us were born, even before the cold war. Take it from me who’s lived through a lot of wars. Same shit different wording. ”

“Given your past involvement with Banner and Blonsky, how will we know you,” She pointed at him, “Won’t do to him what you did to them.” She then pointed at John. This matter was of great concern considering the British officials were afraid of the Hulk or Abomination as they were called coming to their country and the catastrophic risk of their people possibly being killed.

“Erskine believed in good people to do the right thing, but you’ve done all manners of wrong. Considering the creation of both the Hulk and the Abominationyour responsibility. Only to sending the former on the run, with the intent to hunt him down, while you seemed to be ok creating another monster that probably killed civilians in Harlem, on American soil. That wasn’t out of a concern of foreign security, but out of a desperate attempt to take your mistakes and do whatever you wanted.”

“And given the Sokovia accords tore apart the team, and given that we live with technology is another problem. What if somebody, decides to hack the databases containing records of superheroes? Their names, family all that in the hands of who knows what. What if they sell that to some organization and they target their identity? Target who they love, and what if all of that happens to Major who is on the line being the ‘spiritual successor’. Are you gonna take responsibilty for that, or are you gonna make him run? It’s a shock somebody hasn’t died yet.

“It’s only problematic when people like you try to give it one ‘definitive’ meaning. To fit the mold, and do what someone else is right. Even if the agencies disagreed. It’s all what Secretary Ross wants, and not what Major Walker wants, cause is so concerned with his flags.”

“In fact, why we ask him on his opinions on this?” She looked back at John. She could hear him, and they had forgotten the goal and him in this process. Whether or not he’s a spiritual successor to Captain America, he should still have a say in how he wants to do things. 

“I--Wha--HOW???? How did you burn your clothes, don’t you have that fire under lock and key anytime you wanna roast some ‘mallows’?”

“I know I have a lot of clothes spanning different decades but...I don’t know if they’ll fit any of you.”

“I accidentally… burned my clothes. Do you have any I can borrow?”

“I don’t know if it’s possible, but in buddhist culture, the soul’s basically recycled into something, or in your case, someone new. That being said, maybe there’s a part of you that didn’t want to let go and so that stayed. Maybe it became to much so something had to give?”

“With that being said, be careful with Carter or whoever he is. There may be something he remembers that you don’t. Maybe some shared history that went sour?”

“On my homeworld… they call me Shayera. I have a few different names, but that’s the one I believe in right now. I’m not… tied to Katar, not in the same way, now that I’ve been divided into two people. There’s me, and there’s Kendra.”

“As for Katar… there’s him, there’s Carter, but I don’t know how separate they are, really. That… remains to be seen.”
