About To Head Into My First Year In The IB Program. Any Advice?
About to head into my first year in the IB program. Any advice?
Hi thanks for your question ~
I actually wrote an in-depth piece about this other day on the IB Reddit thread:
Prioritize your workload.
It is far more important to spend more time working on any internal/external assessments than in-class ones (i.e. quizzes). I’m not saying that you should ignore any in-class ones but if you have an external assessment submission due the following day but also an in-class one, perhaps consider spending more resources on that external assessment that night.
Keep track of grade breakdowns (i.e. the ratio for final marks).
If your final exam is worth 80% and your internal assessments 20%, don’t waste time stressing over an unsatisfactory in-class assessment mark (in the end, this has little or no effect over final marks). Do however, review the material that you didn’t perform well in and keep a note of it for future reference.
Process internal and external assessments months ahead of time.
For instance, one of the most difficult tasks for the Extended Essay is coming up with a doable topic. Work through your interests and possible choices months in advance (I started actively working through mine the summer before Year 1) to avoid rushing and becoming overwhelmed when working under a time schedule.
In addition to the above, here are the essentials for succeeding in IB (must-sees are in bold):

P.S. Also just in general, if you look up the IB and IB studyblr on Tumblr, you will find a whole community of students who are in the same boat as you if not IB graduates more than willing to provide a helping hand.
Hope this helps ~

“It is very easy in high school to get over an 80 on every assignment, that’s not the way things work in every major in college. And failing a class isn’t the end of the world, you can still come back from that. I failed a class and thought my life was over, meanwhile I ended up graduating with honors still.”

For artists who have problems with perspective (furniture etc.) in indoor scenes like me - there’s an online programm called roomsketcher where you can design a house/roon and snap pictures of it using different perspectives.
It’s got an almost endless range of furniture, doors, windows, stairs etc and is easy to use. In addition to that, you don’t have to install anything and if you create an account (which is free) you can save and return to your houses.
Examples (all done by me):
