what happened with judith butler??

Okay, here we go!

(For those who don't know who Judith Butler is, they are the author of Gender Trouble (1990) who famously wrote on the constructedness of gender/ gender as performance).

Judith Butler had an interview published with The Guardian. In this interview, they talked about TERF shit/gender-critical ideology as the new front of fascism. In their own words:

What Happened With Judith Butler??

After this article was published, this section got deleted without commentary. Given the extent to which many of The Guardian's columnists have unfortunately become spokespeople for TERF ideology (particularly Hadley Freeman, who is second only to J.K Rowling) this has become a question of censorship in a newspaper that was otherwise championed for journalistic integrity.

The IWW FJU is a union for all freelance journalists, bloggers, and other writers in the news media.

Contact us today!

You have nothing to lose but your unpaid invoices!

We’re a group of freelance journalists, bloggers, and other writers in news media from all around the world, organizing to improve our working conditions and assert our rights. In the tumultuous, insecure world of contemporary news media, more and more of us are forced to work on a freelance basis. While it’s difficult to put a precise estimate on the numbers, self-employed writers make up the majority of the profession in the United States and there are legions of us around the world. Publicizing this union comes after a months-long organizing effort in which we’ve had one-on-one conversations with hundreds of freelance journalists and group meetings with dozens, discussing the struggles that members of our profession face and how we can collectively overcome them. Many of us deal with long overdue payments, low rates, vast pay disparities, exploitative contracts and frustrating invoicing systems at publications throughout the industry. While nearly every news outlet relies on freelance labor, few are committed to treating workers with dignity and providing fair compensation. In order to change these conditions, and to gain power through solidarity, we created the Freelance Journalists Union. The FJU is part of the Industrial Workers of the World, an international, member-run union for all workers, which was established in 1905. To learn more, contact us today!

And read more about the FJU’s organizing strategy here:  https://industrialworker.org/a-plan-of-attack-for-iww-fju/

I think part of the reason why we feel so sad is that we're too far away from raw, numinous experiences. Like you know that post with a picture of the unpolluted night sky where people are reacting in terrified awe not realizing that's what the stars really look like?

I think it's like. You need vivid experiences that can't be easily repeated. You need elemental things. I don't mean this in a crunchy hippie just-try-yoga way I mean this in a way that's like...we're inside all the time and most things we experience are scheduled ahead of time. When there are sidewalks, we follow them, and there's always some boring place to go. You need things that no one has any control over and that no one can sell for money.

You need to be outside in a storm and see lightning strike very close to you. You need to meet a wild creature and have to stand very still and almost not even breathe and watch before it vanishes. You need to be alone somewhere very big. You need to go to a place because it looks interesting and be at the wrong place at the wrong time. You need to climb over a fence instead of going in by the gate. You need to hear the exploding sound of a huge flock of birds flying. You need to watch live theater performed by kids on a low budget. You need to be lost somewhere. You need to be barefoot somewhere. You need to sing with other people who are singing. You need to get soaking wet with all of your clothes on and come inside shivering.
