song #47

Everything At Once by Lenka

It was released in November 5, 2012

Fun Fact: We can see that the starting two lines reflect a negative, dark and gory expectations of the songwriter. These darker intentions suddenly follow the light-hearted and more positive aspirations she wants to follow. As in slyness, strength, depth of a bite, darkness- they indicate the hunger for power authority, control and maybe destructive, dominating intentions; but followed by these mentions things like – real freedom that only a bird can experience, quietness, acceptability, melody of a song- further clarify the intentions of the songwriter. It’s not just about good and bad, she wants to go beyond what is good and bad.

Song #51

Finally Find You by Derivakat & Netrum

It was released on September 17, 2021

Fun Fact: This is a song about searching for answers and finding love. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been questioning their direction in life for a long time, seeking some sort of change or rescue. After chasing many empty promises, they begin to let go of the past and embrace a new season of life. The imagery of thunder, lightning, hurricanes, and open roads suggest a sense of freedom and possibility. The repetitive chorus emphasizes the joy and relief of finally finding someone who makes them feel supported and not alone.

Song #57

Rät by Penelope Scott

It was released on August 29, 2020

Fun Fact: It's described as “a breakup letter to the tech cult that is Silicon Valley,” this song was originally called “Elongated Muskrat” as a reference to Elon Musk. Scott describes how, like many other Gen Z kids, she looked up to scientists and Silicon Valley, and looked down on religion. She explores the idea of conflicting views on modern wealth, of hating the rich, yet idolizing them at the same time.

Song #48

Everybody Wants Some!! by Van Halen

It was released in 1980 in their album Women and Children First

Fun fact: At the very end of the song, David Lee Roth (the lead singer) quips, "Look, I'll pay you for it, what the fuck?" The last word is not clearly audible due to the song's fade-out ending, and radio stations occasionally play the uncensored song as a result.

Song #49

Youth by Daughter

It was released on June 19, 2013

Fun Fact: “Youth” is quite possibly Daughter’s most well-known track not only off of their 2013 album “If You Leave”, but of the whole band’s career. It’s hauntingly beautiful and melancholic acoustic guitar accompanied by Tonra’s fragile yet strong and unique voice, “Youth” is an ode to the complicated yet exciting times you experience while growing up.
