OH HEY EVERYONE! It's us again! @samthefrank and I were going to wait a few extra days, but we decided to post early!

It was around 3 AM on what was officially Sunday morning when his phone rang.

Sonic jumped, nearly falling off the little bench at Crazy Carl’s kitchenette table. They’d been sitting together quietly. Carl had shown Sonic a few of the letters from his time in Vietnam before going and answering his own phone calls from Wade with sorry, haven’t seen him.

And so when Sonic’s phone lit up, his mom’s name and picture on the screen, Sonic didn’t know what to do.

“What if they’re mad at me?” He curled his legs up. “I was a jerk to them before I left. And I was worse to Tails and Knuckles.”

“Probably are spittin’ mad at you,” Carl said with a shrug. “Ain’t everyday their baby runs out with a pack’a portal rings. Be surprised if they weren’t.”

“They probably hate me.”

Carl laughed. “If that’s what you wanna think.”

Sonic gnawed at his lip, looking down. “Do I… answer it?”

“Up to you. Like I said, ain’t my job.”

This fanfic is one of my absolute favorites! I’ve been wanting to make fanart for it for a while now but I’ve been busy with my job/ other projects. But I’m glad I finally had the time to make this. I really liked the interactions of Sonic and Carl and it’s now my head cannon that Sonic visits Carl every time he’s stressed.

Thank you @humanityinahandbag and @samthefrank for all of the love and work you put into your Sonic fanfics. Keep up the great work!

I have this strange belief that while Sonic and Knuckles are forthright with their feelings and actions, which lead to louder fights and squabbles between them.

But not Tails.

Tails is quieter. And therefore more dangerous.

If Sonic or Knuckles even tried to make fun of him, Tails wouldn't react at all.

No, this is a kid that would wait 3-5 business days and then unveil a tri-board titled "Why My Brothers are Butt Faced Losers" and pull out every single receipt he's got, whipping out flashcards like, "Reason 1: Because Knuckles broke Mom's favorite vase and blamed it on Ozzie and cried for an hour afterwards about being dishonorable. Reason 2: Because Sonic steals Dad's snacks when he's not home" just absolutely ticking off items watching his brothers shrink farther and farther down into their skin under the gaze of their now very knowledgable parents, Tails just standing there like; 😈

I, for one, cannot wait to see this exact moment in theaters

This story has absolutely been the wildest of rides. Just over two months ago, @samthefrank and I never could have imagined that the story we started brainstorming over late night texts would have garnered so much love, enthusiasm, and an amazingly dedicated following. Thank you all so, so much.

It's also because of that enthusiasm, that we are beyond excited to start posting the sequel, which is basically written and just needs some editing. We hope that you stick around for that as well! It was another invention created by late night texting and a whole lot of caps lock.

And for those Knuckles enthusiasts out there; we see you. The next story is going to be his. Lots of angst and family feels abound.
