The reader refuses to go to bed until a jigsaw puzzle is complete. Yoongi gives a helping hand.

Yoongi rolls over and checks the time on his phone. It is late but it hasn't yet hit midnight. He is all tucked in and ready to fall to sleep but the empty space next to him is keeping him awake because something is unfinished, like a missing piece gnawing at him. When he said he was going to bed, you replied you were right behind him. That was over half an hour ago. 

He sighs and pulls back the covers, leaving the comfort of your shared bed behind to see what still has you so occupied.

His bare feet slowly bring him into the dimly lit living room, where you’ve been all day. He had had a day of studio work so you resigned yourself to a puzzle you purchased months ago. Before you two separated earlier in the day, you mentioned that you were determined to finish the thousand-piece challenge before the day’s end. It appears you were serious.

“Are you coming to bed?” Yoongi asks as he makes his way around the furniture to get a better view of the spot you’ve taken over with your fragmented picture. You’re spread out on the floor, legs behind you with elbows holding you up on a pillow, weariness hovering around your form. He can see that the jigsaw is nearly complete with its depiction of a scenic landscape, but pieces of solid blue are still splintered around you and causing you distress from the cross look that has settled over your features.

“This sky!” The tone of your response is one of frustration and you even make a fist as the words leave your mouth. 

“Come to bed,” Yoongi commands softly, rubbing his stomach under his pajama top. “They’re just blue pieces,” he adds dismissively, implying that you’ve done quite enough for the day.

But you hate the idea of giving up. The azure bits are practically mocking you, being so few in number compared to what you’ve already put together.

“Yoongiiiiiii” you whine, collapsing onto your arms as they fall forward on top of the finished half of the puzzle. “I’m almost done.”

“You can finish tomorrow.” He knows this is going to be a losing fight. You are almost as stubborn as he is. But he is ready for bed and gives it a shot anyway.

“If you cared about me you’d help me with this sky," you tease with a playful pout. It is obvious you’re as tired as he is, but you’re still poking the blue pieces together, determination fighting with fatigue in your slowing actions.

Yoongi rolls his eyes. How are you this stubborn, this frustrating and this adorable at the same time? He tugs up on the legs of his sleep pants before carefully lowering himself to the floor, occupying the spot next to you. 

“Fine, but we’re going to bed after this,” he warns you with a glare.

You meet his tired eyes and agree with a quiet "Promise."

His slender fingers start reaching out to gather the few pieces that are now keeping you both from sleep. You release a yawn and assist him, surrendering the couple you were still holding onto, watching the pile of blues growing in his palms. 

Silence settles over the two of you as the trial and error with those shades of blue begins for Yoongi. A smile replaces your frustrated features as you watch him work. Barefaced, lips slightly parted as he leans forward over the image, black fringe swinging above his concentrated eyes while he tries to help you reach the finish line.  He huffs after a particularly confident choice turns out to be incorrect and flattens his lips into an annoyed scowl. You laugh quietly at this and how quickly he descends into obstinacy, where you found yourself before he walked in. Frustrated hums now sound frequently from his throat. This is going to be harder than he initially thought. 

Even though his eyes are fixed on the vista spread before him on the floor, Yoongi can see you in the corner of his vision. As minutes pass and your random comments cease, he notices when your eyes finally grow too heavy for you to observe him anymore. His lips curl up as your body relaxes next to him while you drift to sleep, your head still resting on your outstretched arms and your sky still a work-in-progress.

After time, there is a nudge to your shoulder followed by a gentle rocking motion.

“Finished.”

Your boyfriend's voice causes you to flinch and raise your head up from your stiff limbs. You aren't sure how long you had been asleep but the sky - and the landscape - are indeed finished.

You groan and use his shoulder for leverage as you pull yourself up. Once upright, you take in the full image and grin happily. Green, lush rolling hills sprinkled with meadows of yellow and red flowers sitting happily under a vast, clear blue sky; a scene that would make The Sound of Music jealous. 

A sense of pride washes over Yoongi as his eyes watch your sleepy features light up. He could have just turned around and went back to bed but he stayed on that floor next to you for who knows how long. “Aww, you do care,” you tease again as your arms circle his torso in a show of thanks and admiration. 

Yoongi had momentarily let his mind wonder how much time had actually passed while he was completing this picture but the look of glee on your face and your grip around his middle quickly dissolved the thought. Definitely worth it.

“If putting a sky together for someone isn’t love, I don’t know what is,” he points out candidly, flashing a soft smile that indicates you should never have doubted him. He would’ve made a sky for you any day.

You remove your arms from him, bringing your hands in front of you to clap softly in overall triumph. You knew he could do it. And you knew you could finish the puzzle before the day’s end. Even if you did get a little help, you still count it as a victory. Take that, blue pieces.

Yoongi joins in your little celebration, clapping a couple times before yawning loudly. If he was honest, he was proud he finished it too. He probably never would have heard the end of it had he not, he thinks with a smirk.

With the landscape fully constructed and admired, he begins to lift himself from the floor. Once upright, the passage of time hits Yoongi and he suddenly is reminded of the missing piece of his own puzzle and how he couldn’t fall asleep without you at his side. He turns and reaches out for your hands, ready to pull you up to him. “Now let’s go to bed, Y/N. You promised.”
