Exactly! Like there are different hair styles and textures that apply to different types of people, whether that be because of race or because of culture.

It's good to get feedback to update your art, but researching is good too, especially for things like this that may not seem important, but that it is actually really important!

I'll give you two example drawings from me (please note these were drawn at different times so the styles are sort of different)

Now, let me start by saying that I am white, and I had to do some research. So please correct me if I get anything wrong or sound racist!

With the bottom image, I based my sources off the picrew used in the drawing. But I also had shown this piece to one of my mom's friends, who is a black woman. She even picked the name!

It's good to look up photos and drawings for reference if you need help with drawing someone of another race or culture, especially if you plan on showing that piece to others. Personally, I used a video by an artist named Thumin (hopefully I spelled her name right), who, as a black woman, gave a tutorial on coloring skin and coloring hair.

But it's also a good idea to check with friends, family or anyone you may know online about extra information, as some sources hold stereotypes for black people as well as other people who aren't white.

With the top image, I spent a LONG time looking up tutorials for how to draw dreadlocks, as that's something I don't draw very often. There were even times I straight up went into ibis paint and looked up if anyone had made a brush for dreadlocks. They had, but they were either too realistic or didn't fit with my style.

The best thing I could do was practice, and while I may mess up from time to time, I'll be fine if I realize how to learn from my mistake.

Hopefully this helped anyone who needed it.

It always bothers me when someone says they hc a character (for example, Cole) as black but then don't adjust the hair at all to fit that headcanon? Like as someone said on a different post, with a similar topic once, it just feels like you're drawing a white person but coloring them as a black person...
