Let’s start with Carly’s glasses. They are a keepsake to him, Carly is missing and he feels as if they are a piece of her and that he still has some of her with him. In the scene where the picture on the left is from, Mina comes to tell him that something happened in Satellite, but before that, she says “Carly’s glasses..” and Jack is visibly upset with that and tells her that he has something to fight for. His whole character arc in this part was about saving Carly.

Next, in the scene where Carly is crying about Jack leaving her, we see a flashback of this happening. He tells her to stay back. He’s harsh about it, but I think he did this to turn her away from him so she won’t follow him. Jack knew the dangers that he would face and he didn’t want her to get hurt, which ironically, was the reason why she died in the first place because she wanted to help him no matter what he said or did, which he later on showed regret for.

Jack has stated before that when he lost his duel to Yusei, a part of him died that day. Jack was obviously bitter, upset, and embarrassed. He had lost all he’s known in the span of a day, but in episode 31 when he and Carly had their talk after spending that day together, that’s when Jack truly felt reborn, she gave him a purpose and he held on to that, even saying himself that she had saved his life in his duel against Dark Signer Carly.

I feel like this duel proved that he truly can’t live without her, and he was going to show that by dying with her. Jack obviously didn’t want her to suffer alone and him trying to end the duel in a draw was a declaration of his love and devotion to saving her. It was such a selfless act that I was genuinely surprised to see, especially coming from Jack of all people. Of course Carly beat him to the punch and ended up killing herself to protect him. Him calling out her name gets me every time

Jack did end up flat out saying that he loved Carly, twice actually, which was just as refreshing to see it stated so blatantly, but I did like the implications of it as well. Even in the second half, he helped Carly with those loan sharks which I think counts in my book. Jack may not be the most expressive person when it comes to being “vulnerable” but he has his own ways of showing his love.

In conclusion, scoopshipping is real.
