the bantam patchpelt (also just called "sirens") are the smallest member of the faun family with a height of 50-60cm. they can be seen climbing walls, balconies on hotels and apartments, and are common around areas with a lot of people. they're extremely good at climbing due to their small hooves and long toes to grip edges on surfaces

as a leaner subspecies of faun, they're very fast and can actively hunt cats, dogs, and seagulls, and they can digest discarded waste materials like all fauns, but their main source of food comes from being hand-fed by humans. because of this they've evolved to make a wide range of sounds to get more food, especially words and phrases.

also, the "cuter" the faun means the more food they get, due to this they evolved to be smaller, have brighter colored coats, and have shorter faces with larger heads and eyes, however most of these traits are caused by inbreeding. due to their primary food source being from humans they aren't able to travel to new areas and forage on their own, and because of this they're all related. due to these traits they can get all kinds of health problems, like broken jaws, difficulty breathing, choking and immune problems. also because they're fully dependent of people for food their numbers can vary wildly during the year, in the warmer months when there's a lot of tourists around they can number between 100-300 in the area, but during the colder seasons with less food available they fall to around 20-100.

because of this, they're dangerous and habituated to people, and they'll do anything to get a reaction or to get food. they can break into houses or attack people who wont feed them. this behavior gets really bad during the colder months/outside tourist season, even if you give them food they'll be right back with more and more each day

because they eat a lot of carrion and high sugar foods, their mouth is full of disease, and due to their proximity to humans and other fauns and animals they can spread disease really quickly.

I have another question, since sirens are so good at mimicry and pattern recognition could you teach one to talk? I think it would be funny to be mugged by a siren like that. To be on your lunch break and hear someone say, "SANDWICH, NOW." and it's a faun staring at you.

if you mean "talk" as in copy a sound a human makes to use in the future for a reaction, then yeah they do that all the time. but for most words they don't really understand the meaning of them (they have their own way of communicating amongst themselves tho). they might be able to understand that the word "sandwich" means a food thing, but they really don't understand that "now!" is anything more than "i saw another human talk to someone in this way/this tone of voice, and they handed them something". so yeah if you did the classic conditioning method of repeating a word until they copied you and gave them food for it you can teach them words, but that doesn't mean they understand what they're saying. if they did want something you have their go-to behavior is to sit at your feet and just stare with big wet eyes going "hiiii :D for meeee?? :D"

also another (probably not) fun fact about sirens, a lot of them have nicotine addictions due to eating too many cigarette butts. this means they get withdrawal symptoms when they go too long without them and just go into a rage. this also means they learned to vape and use heat/fire to light traditional cigarettes. but they also are seen taking hallucinogenic substances for fun too (eg mushrooms)
