Gonna be real because the "Cat King is a sex predator" argument is beginning to annoy me. Note that I am a hardcore Payneland shipper, but the Cat King is one of my favourite characters.

First of all, I am asexual. Edwin is NOT asexual. He is gay. He deadass has like. Sexual fantasies of the Cat King onscreen. He went to a boys' school for teen boys and 1000% is familiar with the concept of a handjob and just didn't know the phrase. Nothing he has said or done screams asexual. He's just repressed. He just is visibly neurodivergent, there's no need to infantalize him!

So here comes the Cat King. When the Cat King starts to talk to Edwin on the roof, Edwin IS SHOWING MUTUAL INTEREST in the Cat King.

While Edwin was uncomfortable, he was uncomfortable with HIMSELF! HIS OWN DESIRES!!!! The second Edwin seems too uncomfortable, the Cat King backs off! Edwin reciprocates this flirty dynamic in the show as well! They DO flirt in episode 4, and "you'll miss me" at the end after Edwin literally kisses him on the face.

The Cat King is too intense and hardcore with his flirting, yes. He could be more subtle. But he's not a sexual predator.

I had an idea for a story based on something I read a long time ago that just sort of floated up in my memory, about how staring into somebody else's eyes for a long time can create a moment of intimacy so intense that people develop romantic feelings. I imagined Charles wanting to be sure-sure before confessing any feelings to Edwin, and wondered what would go on in his mind if he gave this experiment a try. A big dose of fluffy-angsty sweet-and-yearny Payneland schmaltz, it turns out. With kissing.
