Happy birthday Sanji-kun!

I think you all know how much I love Sanji at this point, but some things bear repeating. Sanji isn’t without flaw of course, I think we all know that. But essentially he is just such a human character. A lot of Oda’s work is amazingly detailed and his story telling is some of the best, but ultimately what drew me into the world of One Piece so much were the characters. Oda is a master in characters in my opinion, and for me Sanji is one of the greatest examples.

He is a character that breaks stereotypes and have a ton of different expressions and emotions. I love that Oda decided to write Sanji in WCI not with the focus of getting stronger or better like most male anime heroes, but rather but to show his emotional side. I think it’s far more interesting to read about his strength and weaknesses that come from his personality rather than simply physical ones. His kindness and his self doubt being explored and showcased in depth was such a treat. I thought Oda’s explanations of Sanji’s past was brilliant, and I honestly think Sanji’s arc in WCI is great.

Today is Sanji’s birthday, and once again I am reminded by how far he has come and how much I love him. Thank you Oda, for writing a character like Sanji and giving him so much time in your work.

I love this One Piece development because I have always said that Luffy’s most special achievements had nothing to do with his cool feats or his power or anything like that. It’s his (and the straw hats as a whole) ability to bring smiles to those who have long ago abandoned hope of being happy.

It’s why every arc ends with the straw hats throwing an enormous party and everyone having fun. It’s the SOUL of the manga
