Iago isn't Anankos. That's comparing apples to steak. Yes, Takumi had been possessed by Anankos, but he was exorcised of that by Azura. The after effects of that let him be controlled by Iago, but Iago and Anankos have very different plans for Corrin, to say nothing of relations to Corrin, which I'll touch on in a sec. In Revelation, Gunther attacks Corrin twice. Literally every time they wander off away from prying eyes(in the main game, we're not talking about supports or My Castle, here), Anankos sends him after them. Iago doesn't seem to have that sane vendetta. Yes, he hates Corrin, but all of his schemes seem to involve trying to kill ALL of the Hoshidans. Takumi was really just a bug, a means of getting information to sabotage the Hoshidans. But the main reason it's not the same, the thing I was talking about, was incest. Iago is not related to Corrin. Anankos is. Even if he's using Gunther as a prothsetic dick, he's still going to be having sex with his daughter. His biological daughter. That he sired (human!Anankos is still Anankos, after all). Personally, I was actually hoping for that. I was hoping that Anankos would be so insane, so depraved, that he would use both his vessel's and his daughter's feelings as a weapon to make her suffer (if you choose to go down that path). In the japanese version of Fates, marrying Gunther has him reveal through skinship dialogue that he's had feelings for Corrin for a while. And I feel that while he's all up in his brain, Anankos would know that. Seriously, imagine Gunther and Corrin's supports, but keeping in mind that it's really Anankos talking. Anankos reminscing, Anakos tearing up, Anankos telling his daughter that he has feelings for her and asking her to marry him and having sex with her while Gunther is screaming and going crazy because it's not him, he's not doing any of it and can't stop it and he knows that this thing in his mind is going to keep trying to kill the woman he loves and he's completely powerless... But that would've meant the IS writers taking a chance, a risky one at that, pulling away from their formulaic narratives. And think about it- think about how grossed out the fandom was when it was implied you could sleep with your blood siblings. How many people hate that Azura is Corrin's cousin because it adds a squick factor to shipping them. How people flipped their shit at the barest implication of a roofie in Soliel and Corrin's support. Letting Gunther support Corrin in Revelation combines increst, rape, and massive age differences (which too many fans need to grow up over), into something dark and horrifying and fucking awesome that we're never going to see in an FE game as long as people refuse to differentiate between fiction and reality. Maybe if Fire Emblem becomes a massive Nintendo staple, lik Mario, they could have a bit more freedom with the story. But I really don't see it happening. FE has never been a pinacle of story telling to me, and Fates could barely juggle trying to tell the same story three times; they'd handle a subplot about nonconsent and betrayal in the most intimate manner with all the delicacy and subtleness of a freight train.TL;DR- IntSys was trying to avoid a very obvious incest/rape subplot by not letting you support Gunther in Revelation. There's still the very real factor of dubious consent when marrying Takumi in Birthright, but anyone who marries Tacomeme is too busy going "SO KAWAII SUGOI DESU NEE BEST PINEAPPLE SON uwu" to care.
