was it dumb for you to agree to meet the unknown person half an hour before your date with suna? yes, maybe. but you can’t blame a girl for being curious. you weren’t afraid or anything but you still notified fumiko about your whereabouts just in case something did go wrong.

wrapping the jacket around your fram tighter due to the chilly air you slowly and carefully made your way to the meeting spot on the text. as you reached the place and saw no was there you decided on waiting a few minutes, anxiously tapping your foot and fingers playing with each other. but the silence was broken with the footsteps entering your line of vision, and when you looked up to meet the eyes of the intruder a gasp left your mouth. “ukai? what—what are you doing here? you can’t be seen with me-“

he shut you up with his hand on your mouth, motioning for you to keep your voice down. “im sorry if i scared you with the unknown number. your uncle has connections everywhere so i wanted to be careful.”

taking his hand off your mouth you nodded indicating that you were listening to him. when you looked at him he was trying his best to not look you in the eyes as he was placing his hands in his pockets.

“he plans on stopping the payment for your mom’s rehab.” he said in one breath. eyes wide and mouth open, the only reaction you could give was the fear stricken expression on your face. “wh-what do you mean? why would he do that? we took him to court, he has to pay-“

“do you know who you’re talking about y/n! this is your uncle he has the money and the connections to save him from everything.”

“but if so, why didn’t he do this before? why now of all time?”

“he...he wants your father’s assets.”

“excuse me! who does he think he is!? like hell im going to give them to him, is he out of his mind?” you were frantic, stressed, scared for your future and your mom’s, this was the last thing you needed, last thing you wanted. why did it have to be you?

“look i know you don’t want to but think of it this way. you’ll get a huge amount of money if you sell it and im sure it’ll be enough and more for the rehab and your education-“

“are you actually telling me to consider this? that is the only thing i have left of my father and i’d rather die then let him corrupt the company. you should know its the fact that those assets don’t belong to him that keep the company alive.” you were holding yourself back from crying, you couldn’t let your guard down. your decision was final and nothing was going to change that but it would be a lie if you said the offer was stupid because it could actually help you. but you were too proud and too persistent to let that happen.

“okay, okay i get it alright? if that’s what you think you have to find a way somehow to stop this. you know he’ll never let go until he gets what he wants.”

you started biting your nails; a bad habit you required through the years, “get me a list of his top employees, im going to hope on finding some dirt on him.”

ukai turned you around by your shoulders to look you in the eye, “are you sure you want to play this game? its risky.”

“i don’t care at this point, my mother’s health and this family’s dignity matters the most. im not gonna let some scum win.”

“alright. i’ll get you the list.” he patted your head and moved to hug you. ukai was like the brother you never had.

when you father was alive, ukai was his right hand man and due to that, you spent a lot of time growing up with him. even though he worked for your uncle now (due to familial issues) he still helped you as much as he could, and you really appreciated it. you just hoped his end wouldn’t be bad if he were to ever get caught.

when you finally arrived at suna’s house it was 10 minutes late. you hoped he wouldn’t get mad for that cause you were actually looking forward for the date, but all that cam crashing down once you looked inside through the window to see suna and ayaka sitting on the couch cuddling while watching a movie.

did he forget? no that couldn’t be, he was the one who asked you wasn’t he? but then why was he busy as if your date was never supposed to happen in the first place? were you a joke to him? you internally shook your head at the multiple questions surfacing in your head and rather the calling him out for what he did, you decided on going home and making the choice that would relieve you of half of your daily stress. you didn’t want to be connected to them by any means at this point. fumiko would be proud.
