i think there's such an important distinction that aziraphale didn't choose heaven over crowley. he chose heaven for crowley. yes it was misguided and wrong, but he was doing it all with crowley in his mind.

the sheer pain i felt on crowley's behalf watching gabriel and beelzebub go off to alpha centauri together, just like Crowley always wanted. it broke me. they could have it, why can't crowley and aziraphale have it.

that brief moment in the Eden scene in Good Omens is everything to me. Crowley and Aziraphale have just met, and they are supposed to be enemies, but when the first rain comes they are there together. Crowley has wings of his own, he could have covered himself just fine. Aziraphale does not move to cover himself at all. It is so perfect, so natural and automatic, for Crowley to shuffle closer, and for Aziraphale to lift a wing to shelter him. The quiet understanding, of watching the world when it is still new and full of so many possibilities. They were made for each other.
