Otherkin Ask Game the Sequel

On a lighter note, seeing all those joking “kin for fun” ask games sparked a determination in me to make a genuine, serious list of question prompts that would tie into what otherkin truly is.

I might actually do this ask game myself since these are the kind of questions I’d love to discuss with someone, back and forth.

1. When did you start identifying as otherkin? In hindsight, how many of your quirks/behaviors/interests connect to your identity?

2. What kind of shifts do you normally get (phantom, mental, dream, sensory, etc.)? How long had you been getting shifts before taking up the otherkin label? 

3. How many kintypes do you have? Which one did you discover first? Are you questioning any?

4. What types of kintypes do you have? Psychological, spiritual, archetypal? Do you have any clue why? (Ex: someone identifying psychologically as a dragon due to feels from their past lives as a bird and reptile ‘types blending together in the present.)

5. For fictionkin, have you found any of your canonmates? If so, who and when? If not, do you want to find them?

6. For those who got frequent shifts before identifying as otherkin, what did you think caused them? Did you equate shifts of any kind with “nonhuman” feelings before discovering your kintypes?

7. For fictionkin, how long did you know about your source before awakening? Are/were you engaged in the fandom?

8. What symbols, phrases, or concepts are important/resonant with you due to your kintypes? How long did you associate with these things before realizing the reason?

9. Do you, on average, get more shifts or memories?

10. For those with “normal, earthly animals” as ‘types, do you identify as otherkin or therian? Or both? Why?

11. For those with more animal-like kintypes (or just literal animals), what are the most significant quirks/behaviors/instincts that 

12. For those with more humanoid (in mind or form) kintypes, is the overall species (and the quirks that come with it) just as important to you as the specific personality/memories?

13. What makes you feel most “at home”? What types of sights, sounds, smells, etc. remind you of your kintype and put you at ease?

14. On the flipside, what environments would make your kintype on edge? Do any of your fears now connect to things experienced/feared by your kintypes?

15. What was your first reaction to/opinion of your kintype? How has your opinion changed upon realizing that they, or at least a version of them, are you?

16. For fictionkin, what’s one prominent aspect of canon or fandom interpretations that is incredibly inaccurate/different from how things went in your personal canon? 

17. If you could, would you want to be your kintype? What would be some pros and cons of that if that were possible?

18. How did you first discover the otherkin community?

19. If you’ve ever taken one of those “what animal/character are you” quizzes, was it actually accurate? 

20. What are some things you can do to connect with your kintypes better? Do you ever look at those “kin help” sites with recipes/outfits/merch/aeshtetics?

21. How long did it take for you to come to terms with/confirm your kintypes? If you haven’t confirmed any yet, how sure are you and why?

Bonus Question: As serious otherkin, how many times have you been subjected to “kin for fun” jokes and jabs?
