Somewhere there is an AU in which Ironwood arrests the villains, subdues Salem, expels those meddlesome RWBY kids, and saves Atlas. He is promoted to Field Marshal for his deeds. Many years later he helps mediates a final peace between humans and faunus. Atlas tech and economic aid helps the other kingdoms recover from Grimm attacks. He retires with full honors and dies of old age surrounded by Penny, Winter, Clover, and Qrow. Even RWBY come to give their respects despite their past differences.

Look if someone is writing this AU currently link me because I need it like I need air I can't be the only one writing AU's where James isn't evil and lives right? I don't think Winter would actually be their but you know I'll take anything with James living a long and happy life lolz.

I imagine though in any James lives and is good AU any and every Huntsman and Huntress alive who ever was a student of James would attend the funeral because he was that loved by them all. Atlas might request assistance from other kingdoms for the funeral to patrol the city so that the military could all be in attendance to pay their respects.
