"Sure, you will.. now write the essay so I can enjoy my weekend" He said pushing his laptop toward you

"Time to binge w-" The doorbell interrupted you

You sigh and stand up making your way to the door

"What di- Oh it's you" "Why do you look so offended" Mitsuya asked walking into your apartment

"Sure, come in" You mumbled more to yourself, closing the door "What are you doing here mitsuya?"

"Keeping you company" He replied sitting down on the couch

"Aren't you suppose to be at a party?" You asked

He turn he head around "I'm more of a homebody, though that you knew me better than this"

"Wow, it's as if we aren't friends" "We are"

You glared at him in disbelief "That's definitely on sided" 

"Do you have a lighter?" "Does it look like I smoke?" "Yeah, sometimes"

"Oh my fucking god" You threw your head back closing your eyes "can you like… leave?"

"Mhh, Nope" "Okay, I'll be in room with the door locked!" you said grabbing your laptop

Here’s why I’m so sick of this statement especially on platforms on Tiktok and Twittter.

When it comes to dark skin characters in media, there is a extreme lack of representation.

When it comes to editing characters i.e. My Hero Academia, Haikyuu, Danganronpa, Genshin Impact etc. there is nothing wrong with darkening their skin, why? It doesn’t impact their heritage.

Many assume that when it comes to people with dark skin, they are black. While there are many black people with darker skin, dark skin present in so many other cultures including South Asian, Southeast Asian, Indigenous Groups, Middle Eastern Groups, etc.

The reason so many people believe these edits are wrong is because of biases. They are uncomfortable seeing characters they like with dark skin because in our society we have made it that dark skin is undesirable and a threat.

I mean in real life people are actively trying to bleach their skin to appear lighter, people will lighter skin have higher chances of being hired, and those with lighter skin are deemed beautiful.

I will say that claiming a character is “better” with dark skin or editing fanart so it has dark skin, isn’t okay and I don’t agree when people do this.

At the end of the day though, sending barrages of hate to these people does nothing but show off your colorism.

Now you may ask “well why can you blackwash but I can’t whitewash a character”

Whitewashing goes into colorism. Many people who do this are perceiving characters as better looking with lighter skin and more Eurocentric features; again confirming their biases. This isn’t nearly as called out, because of our societal love for Eurocentric features. We see this with Miruko (BNHA), Nessa (Pokémon Sword and Shield), etc.

I’m so tired of people villainizing black and dark skin people in fandoms.
