Alfred prods carefully around the swelling of the joint and frowns. “Werther you liked them or not, your safety should be the priority” he blinks up at her with a quiet tut in an almost fatherly tone. “You’ve badly sprained it, I obviously can’t tell you for certain if it’s broken, I’m not feeling any displacement, it’s certainly bruising up but from the fact your not crying your eyes out in agony I’ll assume were lower than a seven on the pain scale, does it hurt when I touch it or have you got any numbness or pins and needles going on?”

“They are safe... usually.”

She had been trying to ignore the pain and push it out of her mind while she waited but now she tuned into it... She hissed in discomfort as he poked and prodded but by all accounts, a bad sprain sounded about right. “No, I can definitely feel it. I wouldn’t like to walk much on it right now, but I don’t think it’s broken. 

She sighed, feeling sorry for herself. “It’s at a 5. Maybe a six” She winced as he touched a particularly sore spot. Some ice would hopefully help.

i think a lot of people tend to refer to the collins-penned batman #408 as the starting point for post-crisis jason, but it seems the immediately preceding detective comics #574, by mike w. barr, is actually the first issue to refer to jason as a product of crime alley and to build the basis for collins’ subsequent characterization of jason as the kid whose emotional issues bruce hopes to channel into good. it’s a really great issue that draws some wonderful parallels between bruce and jason as well as brings leslie thompkins into the picture. i’ve always felt she and jason should have more of a relationship and i wish this issue was more significantly remembered bc it heralds a gold mine of potential jason plot lines in light of his death and resurrection
