The report described piles of aid – including nappies, clothes and food parcels – in Egypt, unable to enter Gaza since Israeli forces seized the Gaza side of the Rafah border crossing in May. "Not one decision-maker on the planet cares about this issue, although everyone on the ground is ready to act. But for anyone in a position of power, humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza is just not a priority," [Amed Khan] said. (source)

There isn't sufficient anything coming into Gaza, and what does make it through is being sold at an extortionate rate. Maryam Ashour isn't even 2 and has already been subjected to the most punishing living conditions imaginable. Her parents live in a state of constant terror and exhaustion, sleeping in shifts so they can move quickly if there's an attack, constantly at a loss with how to provide the basics for their little girl.

At this very moment, my family in Gaza is living under constant threat and indescribable fear. Every second is filled with anxiety and anticipation. Terrifying random bombs rain down from the sky, and the sound of warplanes never fades. They can’t sleep, they can’t find safety, and they can’t escape the terror that surrounds them on all sides.

My loved ones are trapped in a never-ending nightmare, living under the constant threat of destruction. Their streets, once full of life and laughter, are now empty and shattered. There is no electricity, no clean water, and barely any food. They gather together, praying that the next explosion won’t be the one that takes everything away from them.

I can hear the fear in their voices when I speak to them. They try to sound strong, but how can they stay strong when everything they’ve ever known is crumbling before their eyes? How can they hold on to hope when the world around them is falling apart?

Their suffering is real, their pain is unimaginable, and the world cannot turn its back on this tragedy.
