《“There two truths in this world,” you said lowly, sliding the book down to the table and losing your place, but it didn’t matter, for you had memorized the page number. “One, people tend to choose partners more attractive than them. And two, if they’re not more attractive than them, they’re more brilliant than them. I just so happen to be both those things to you, Kim Namjoon.” 》

Last night I read this piece and realized that I was completely and utterly fucked because I knew that this wouldn’t be the last. If I’m being honest, I actually read this a few months ago, literally minutes after you posted it, but I forgot to write to you, so now I’m here. After the third? Fourth time reading it through, and it still holds the same weight as it did before.

There aren't a lot of things that I can truly admit to tilting me off my own axis, but the beginning really had me hooked, and I kept becoming curious about what would happen beyond the “Explain”. Being thrown into the midst of an argument is something that has and always will captivate me. You tend to see the struggle for power, the shuffle of imbalance from how the characters jab at one another until someone strikes the final blow, and there's a final victor one way or another.

When you’re looking at the main character, she’s witty, fiery yet poised, and blunt, which all makes her strike hard and head-on. I also feel like even though she wants people to know her as this bitchy person to enhance staple tabloids have put on her, there are still parts of her that are very enigmatic and mystifying. It’s enticing and I love her. She puts up walls around herself as a defense mechanism, and she makes these comments that you see coming, but there are still a lot of things that you know that you don’t know about her (possibly because she doesn’t want people to know about her because it’s easier that way. You could kind of see it in this part:

“You are being immature, ridiculous, and childish.”

“Good, do you hate me yet?”

“No, I don’t.”

And maybe that’s why it was so easy for Namjoon to parry with her...Speaking of-)

Namjoon is very interesting as well. He too can be very direct and means what he says. When he stated: “I’m not saying you need me. I am saying I need you.” and,“To me, you are the one I have always admired and wanted.” those were moments that took me back, and I respected him a little more because of it. He’s not cocky and he admits to things readily. He’s a bit more grounded. He’s cool and calm, allowing him to see three steps ahead and put her in “checkmate”. He’s also incredibly sexy. The ending, where things slow down for a moment, and the main character says:

You huffed, looking away, somewhat disturbed how that dimpled smirk made your heart flutter a little. “I don’t want to my husband to be a goody-two-shoes. There’s no way I’m spending the rest of my life sampling vanilla ice cream.”

“Oh?”

He purred your name and you frowned at his tone, suddenly low, dangerous, and on the brink of causing heart arrhythmia.

“I wouldn’t worry about that.”

Your eye twitched, heat rising to your neck and cheeks. “Does Min Yoongi not know the meaning of in confidence–”

“I’m very persuasive,” Namjoon drawled, knowing glint in his eye. “And an avid researcher in my own way.”

(I too was, and still am, blushing at this part.)

Even though there’s this enemies to somewhat lovers (?) potentially (???) trope happening, both the main character and Namjoon are cut from the same cloth even if they may not see it exactly. This mainly goes for the main character though, because she has some feelings for him even if it isn’t blatant. She’s intrigued by him, if not a little, which is why she was curious about what book he was reading. She’s hurt by the fact she’s made to feel lesser than, which kind of blinds her a little. But being intrigued and being irritated stem from the same tree. Both lead to feelings of curiosity. Wanting to know more, which could then lead to feelings of jealousy or admiration. But I really love the chemistry between these two!! It was amazingly done!!!

Ah, this was so good, and this is super long, so I’m sorry!! I can’t wait to read more works of yours!! Sending you my love💕

So, I had an idea but I'm not good at writing...

Then I remembered you're the best at that so, y'know. Obvious thing was to come here.

My idea was:

Kim Namjoon says he loves the reader but she strikes out saying "You don't love me. You just love the idea of being seen with me."

Yeah very brief idea but its not that descriptive which means you could write it -gets on knees and does puppy eyes-

I know you'd do an amazing job...okay soft time over, eugh. Anyway totally you're choice, thank u for ur time. Cya later! x

He furrowed his brow and planted a hand on the book you were holding, forcing you to close it.

“Explain.”

You narrowed your eyes. “What is there to explain?”

“’You don’t love me. You just love the idea of being seen with me’? How can these things be true?”

Silence. Underneath it, rage shimmered.

“There two truths in this world,” you said lowly, sliding the book down to the table and losing your place, but it didn’t matter, for you had memorized the page number. “One, people tend to choose partners more attractive than them. And two, if they’re not more attractive than them, they’re more brilliant than them. I just so happen to be both those things to you, Kim Namjoon.”

“I love you as a person.”

You laughed acidly. “No one likes me as a person. You know why? Because I don’t let them.” You tilted your head, scrutinizing the man before you, tall, dark-haired and neatly parted, glowing tanned skin, wearing a tailored black suit and a frown. “I’m a national chess champion and leading a research group in cutting-edge gene augmentation therapy. The press love to call me a class-A bitch. Why would an award-winning music producer have any interest in me at all?”

“You were a child once.”

“That was a long, long time ago, Namjoon, and I’m not that kid chasing after you asking you to read me the Odyssey anymore.”

“That doesn’t matter. You still have the same determination in life.”

You ticked your head. “And so?”

“To me, you are the one I have always admired and wanted.”

You sighed, rolling your eyes. “Popular kids simply don’t understand that nerds like us don’t need you.”

“I’m not saying you need me. I am saying I need you.”

“You are only saying that because your parents want you to get married,” you snapped, snatching your book from the table, but Namjoon slammed his hand down on it, startling you.

“Listen to me,” he demanded, deep voice deepening, fanning his fingers out over the cover. “I asked your parents to meet you. I asked for this date. My parents weren’t involved. I haven’t seen you in forever. You’ve been off conquering the world with your brilliance and your beauty and you never gave me a damn chance to say anything and, the second I do, you shut me down?”

“Look, you are stuck in the past–”

“No, you are stuck in the past. You are not giving me a chance because you think we’re back in high school and me becoming the valedictorian was some personal attack or vendetta against you, when the reality was the teachers just picked whoever the fuck they wanted. I didn’t have a say–”

“Then maybe you should have turned it down,” you interjected, but Namjoon cut you off, his large hand grabbing yours as you tried to rise, yanking you back down forcefully. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw the waiter attempt to walk into the private room but immediately back up as he sensed the tension.

“No one cares–”

“I care, obviously!”

His eyes widened at your tone and you flung his hand aside, your navy dress flourishing with the movement.

“Do you know how many years I spent afterward with my parents rattling off in my ears? That should have been you, maybe you aren’t that smart, holy shit, day in, day out, shit, I still get that damn speech! Imagine my fucking glee when I heard you wanted to go on a date so I could turn your ass down, spending all this time proving myself to live up to you, the ideal.”

“You’re pissed at me because of your parents?” Namjoon sputtered in disbelief. “You won’t give me a chance because of your parents?”

“No, I won’t, because if by some freak accident I actually like you, I will be doing nothing but satisfying their wish to have you as their son.”

“You are being immature, ridiculous, and childish.”

“Good, do you hate me yet?”

“No, I don’t.”

You scowled.

Namjoon pointed to your book. “I recommended this book to Yoongi-hyung recently.”

You glanced at The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. “It’s a book. They are meant to be read.”

“You’ve been using him to keep tabs on me.”

“I don’t use people,” you hissed. “And he does what he wants.”

“Such as being your spy and giving you information about my life when you could ask me directly.”

You scoffed. “Why would he do that?”

“Oh, I don’t know, because he thinks it’s hilarious that I ask him the same things about you, so he’s been playing cat-and-mouse with us all these years out of sheer amusement.”

A muscle in your eye twitched. “Why are you keeping tabs on me?”

Namjoon responded automatically. “Because I love you. Why are you keeping tabs on me?”

“Because you irritate me.”

Namjoon narrowed his eyes. “Insufficient logic.”

You were a chess player. You saw the checkmate coming and you couldn’t stop it.

“You asked Yoongi-hyung to sleep with the girl I liked before I could ask her on a date.”

God-fucking-damnnit, Min Yoongi, I told you not to tell anyone!

He cocked an eyebrow. “You don’t want me to be your parents’ son, but your problem could be easily solved if I married another woman. You choose to meddle in it.”

You would have some very choice words with a certain smirking, cat-eyed man later.

“Well, maybe your life should be miserable.”

“Over being high-school valedictorian? I think you’re taking your parents’ projections of success onto you a little too far.”

“It is incredibly annoying how often they remind me I need to seduce you and bear your babies,” you grumbled, feeling your resolve crumble a little.

“You never had to seduce me and there are many alternatives to childbearing, including surrogates and adoption, that I am happy to explore.”

“I want children. I just don’t want my parents to be right about you.”

Namjoon smirked. “What would they be right about?”

Love Is The True Art - JJK x GN!Reader

Love Is The True Art - JJK X GN!Reader

Pairing: Jeon Jungkook x G!N!Reader

Genres: sfw, fluff, childhood friends-to-lovers

Themes/Warnings: pining, v v slight angst, mentions of broken bones, tattooed!Jungkook, just much softness

Word count: 1k

A/N: Heavily unedited and a spur of the moment decision, inspired by these prompts. I was just feeling very soft about JK and his tats, and this is the result. Also, the title comes from IU and Zico’s song, Soulmate! As always, any feedback or comments are much appreciated, but I appreciate you all anyway. Lots of love, Isi 💜

Header made by me! (ik he doesn’t have tats, but the vibes were perfect and imagination is a powerful tool)

Love Is The True Art - JJK X GN!Reader

“Well?” A whoosh of air escapes the back of Jungkook’s throat, letting out a breath you didn’t even know he’d been holding in.

“What do you think?”

Your eyes flit to his bandaged arm as he gingerly begins to unwrap it, uncovering the whorls of ink that lie beneath. A vibrant rainbow of hues thrums underneath his skin. Straight lines. Curved ones. A flower here. A bold font there.

Living art, you muse. There’s no better words to describe Jeon Jungkook. Your best friend and confidant through all the bumps and bruises of childhood, the sticks and stones of middle and high school, and currently, leaned back and languorous on the shabby couch in your apartment’s living room.

You silently thank the higher powers above that your (much prettier) roommate stepped out for the night, shuddering to think how she’d react now if she stumbled upon a sleeveless Jungkook flexing his newly-tatted bicep.

“I-, I..um...wow,” you breathe. “It’s beautiful.” He’s beautiful.

Continuing to scan the various quotes and drawings that crawl up his arm, you stop. Jungkook’s tattoos are undeniably gorgeous, a masterpiece on an even more perfect canvas, no doubt the work of a skilled maven. Yet amongst the flowing cursive and fine lines, something catches your breath.

Art is a familiar craft to you, but there’s something about these pieces that seem so nostalgic, like a fond memory pressed in the scrapbook you keep on the top shelf of your bookcase.

You suck in, a sharp gasp escaping your throat. Glassy eyes look upwards, meeting Jungkook’s doe-like ones.

Love Is The True Art - JJK X GN!Reader

“Kook, stay still, I’m almost finished with it!” you pout.

“___, I can’t help it, my leg keeps feeling all funny and tickly!” Jungkook squirms out of your grasp, the marker lines running down the plaster of his cast and ruining what could have been a beautiful flower.

“JEON JUNGKOOOOK! You moved!” you whine.

“Now it’s ruined,” your eyes fill with tears, looking at straight line that turned into a squiggle and tainted your showpiece on Jungkook’s leg.

Drawing on Jungkook’s casts had been your favorite thing for as long as you could remember. Your best friend was a shy, yet adventurous soul, always quietly dragging you to explore all the cool new hideaways he’d find. Of course, his enthusiasm and athleticism came with the added con of Jungkook constantly coming home with cuts and scrapes.

And broken bones. You couldn’t count how many casts you’d written onm, drawn flowers and suns to cheer him up. And yet, Jungkook continued to be fearless and careless; the added plaster never weighed him down from partaking in fun and laughter.

He’s not laughing right now. In fact, he looks slightly apologetic, a slight tilt to his head and his nose scrunching as he’s lost in thought, his doe-like eyes shining with stars in them that mirror the tears in your own.

“___, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to ruin your drawing. Don’t cry, please!! The next time I break a bone, you can make something even more beautiful! I promise I’ll stay still next time.”

You huff, not believing in his false promises. Jungkook had ruined many a masterpiece with his inability to stay still.

“___. Hey, look at me, please?” Jungkook tugs on your hair gently, willing you to turn your head and face him. He gives you the gentlest of smiles, bunny teeth poking out from underneath his braces.

“I’d break a thousand bones if it meant seeing you smile while you draw on all my casts.”

Your face burns, and you shove him to the side.

“Yah, you idiot, don’t say things like that! That’s not what I meant!”

Love Is The True Art - JJK X GN!Reader

Jungkook’s wide eyes meet your own, as you suffocate under the weight of your unspoken feelings.

“That’s all you have to say? Don’t you recognize them?” Jungkook’s words come out shaky, unsure, wondering if he’s made a mistake.

You do. The designs that now mark Jungkook’s beautiful golden skin are yours. Snippets from the many things you’d drawn on his casts over the years.

A flower here. A bold font there. A sun for some added cheer when Jungkook had to stay inside and recover.

The lines are sharper, more refined than the ones your small, chubby fingers had sketched out years ago, but there’s no denying the presence of you in Jungkook’s ink.

“Why?” you breathe out. Your head spins. “Why me?”

Jungkook strides forward, taking your face in his hands and resting his forehead against yours.

“It’s always been you. I’ve always wanted to show you how much your masterpieces meant to me, how I’d break a thousand bones just to see you smile while you write on my skin. I figured I couldn’t break all the bones in my body, so this is the next best thing,” he offers you a weak smile.

“Don’t!” you choke out. “Don’t you dare joke about hurting yourself like that.”

“Will you say it back? Please, I’m so in love with you I might pass out if you don’t say it back,” the anxiety seeps into Jungkook’s voice.

“You stupid idiot, can’t you see that I’ve been hopelessly in love with you since the beginning? Since before we were six years old and climbing that ancient oak tree and you fell and broke your arm?

All those drawings, all those words on your casts, they were the things I could never bring myself to say. So I just drew instead,” your voice is no more than a hush as you feel Jungkook’s hot breath fan your neck.

“___. Hey, look at me, please?” Your eyes turn upwards just as you feel Jungkook’s lips come crashing down on yours.

Your body melts into Jungkook’s, as your hands reach up to trace the art on his arms, the outlines providing the perfect canvas for the both of you to color with future memories of touching, tracing, kissing.

Jungkook’s tattoos may be the perfect example of living art, but you know your love is the truest art of them all.

A/N pt 2: I hope you enjoyed!!!

“Best Dude?”

“I’m not writing ‘dude’ on a wedding program,” Namjoon argues. “Best Lady?”

“Best Human,” you suggest.

“Somehow that feels like it’s taking it too far.”

“Aish! I thought we were friends!” You slap his shoulder playfully. “The purple one.”

He squints at the reflection in the mirror, holding up two potential ties. “You sure?”

“Yes. Absolutely. I’ve seen her dress and helped choose the flowers. Trust me, bro.”

“Hmmm…. best bro. Are you my Best Bro?”

“I’m all for subverting gender expectations, but I’m no bro,” you say, tucking a stray lock of hair back in. “And neither are you in that suit, sir.”

He breaks into a grin at the word, instantly taking years off his face and making him look just like the boy you first met in school. If someone had told past-you that the clumsy, nerdy kid you were paired with in chemistry class would one day be your dearest friend, you wouldn’t have believed a word of it.

And yet, it happened. Over the year, over shared Bunsen burners and ruined titrations, he wormed his way into your heart and set up shop there as something unbelievably precious. Now there are years and years of shared history: college parties and the accompanying bad choices, the celebratory dinner he treated you to when you landed your first real job, the sympathy flowers he sent you when you had your first real heartbreak.

And more recently, the three of you: you and Namjoon and your baby sister.

Thank you, for enduring this life silently. Thank you, for believing so fiercely that he is worth it.

You are truly, unfathomably strong. If he knows anything at all, he knows this.

The beginning of this part was a marker for epiphanies. It was like things were coming full circle again, not only in terms of the story itself but also in a broader scope.

You start off with:

Tonight, even as the king chooses to take the scenic route around to inspect the budding greenery of the trees and the aging architecture of the cluster of grand halls, all roads lead to you.

And this is where I had to stop and think-feel- for a little bit even though it was only the first paragraph. The establishing scenery and atmosphere immediately reminded me of April 1869, which is strange because that chapter was one of the darker ones, so it felt strange to automatically draw connection so soon and without any support. But the walk that was had and the memories of what was said didn't leave my mind until I realized why once I continued reading.

It's a juxtaposition between the Yoongi then and the Yoongi now. The way he carries himself and how he treats the main character is completely different from what it used to be. That moment which was catalyzed from the ladies' voices was almost as if he were looking at his past self in the mirror, and he acknowledges his faults done onto her from the past. If the past Yoongi were there, the scene would have most definitely played out differently, possibly with him ignoring them and continuing on his walk. But he's different now, and everyone knows it, which is why when he chooses to go to her, to run to her, the impact of his actions making it even more meaningful. The only other time I can say Yoongi had done something so impulsive when it came to the well-being of the main character was during the ambush of November 1869.

There was also the ode to the Tonight series that I found by accident, and it made me wonder, why start that way? What's the common theme between them? Well, like you said, the Tonight series is "a collection of short, smutty snippets that detail how you will spend that time with your man." However, this wasn't smutty at all. The exact opposite, if I must say. The anti-smut, if you will. But, there can be love outside of sex and intimacy outside of physical closeness. You don't have to be raw dogging someone (I'm sorry) to let them know that they mean a lot to you, and by simply willing and wanting to be in her presence to comfort her in the way that he knows how it just felt nice. Like another stone was being unturned in their relationship. (This part probably doesn't even mean that much. I'm just letting my brain...brain, so I'm sorry.)

Also, may I add something? The last part, "the thank yous" In a way, feels like he is talking to us. The readers, for believing in him. For staying with him for the past 31 parts, even when times were shaky and uncertain. And in a way, this might seem selfish or self-centered, but the very last sentence didn't feel as though it should be read and kept within the frames or confines of the story. It felt more than that, and it meant a lot to me for some weird reason which is why I highlighted it at the very top.

We read to not feel as though we're alone, so thank you for creating a space that makes it easier to breathe. Thank you so much, Rain for this part!! I can't wait to continue on💕🌙

P.S.- (I also thought that the reason why the main character was covering her stomach was because she was pregnant, and then it was mentioned in passing by one of the ladies....are you foreshadowing something, Rain😳???? Because if you are, I don't think I'm going to be able to take it)

interlude: april 1870.
