If the world had its fair share of handsome men, then you were satisfied with your cut of laying eyes on Kim Seokjin five days a week, and even the odd Saturday of deadlines and overtime.

I know that I told you that I was already on like chapter 3 when I first messaged you, but I actually binge read all of the chapters, and now I’m here. Rereading this story again so I can make my thoughts more cohesive and less KAYDAHIHDIJDAJJDKKPDAKP-like. Not that “KAYDAHIHDIJDAJJDKKPDAKP” is bad, it’s just I have a lot to talk about, and I’m not sure that could condense all of my feelings into one (though it comes pretty damn close to it). This was a personal choice though, one that I made once I realized I had dug myself into a fairly deep hole and nothing except for sleep and the digits on my clock were going to hold me back from continuing reading this phenomenal story.

I was constantly toeing the line of thinking, "If you can still understand these words, then read another chapter", and the grip that this story had on me (and still does have on me) is unmatched. Effleurer reads like a movie. I've never been so captivated by a story, by a plot and its characters, by some of the deep and sentimental connections that I too have encountered at one point in my life, and others that I’m excited to touch upon since it’s new and I wanted to have time to flesh them out in these reviews. So, without further ado, let's go.

On Twitter, I always see you and our mutual friend's tag and talk to you about this series, and over the past year or so, this story has been one that has been kept near the front of my mind but I haven't had the perfect time to read this. Now though, I'm oh so glad that I have and that I did.

The main character is like fire. From the combined knowledge due to me reading ahead, I can say that she's so bright and vibrant and beautiful even though she can be dangerous to touch (something that Seokjin just so happens to be experiencing at the moment). She's logical and charismatic, but she also likes to let her emotions guide her in ways that (mostly) end up being quite fruitful to her in the end.

It was no wonder everyone loved theorizing how he must have had a secret life filled with some measure of debauchery. Maybe he was into drugs and prostitutes, or maybe he was in the witness protection program. Maybe he was using the business in a grand money laundering scheme. The most popular theory involved him spending many a late evening with the CEO's daughter. Someone always had a new titillating story that made up for his all too perfect persona.

Seokjin is someone who I didn't think would tilt my world on an entirely different axis, but he has and I cannot stop thinking about him. (also, have you seen the concept photos?!?! OMG)

No, because this is ridiculous.

Anyways, there's a softness about him even during the times where he is...not so soft. He's just as comforting as he makes my mind go blank later on in the series, and the way you shaped and molded him throughout is so wonderful! He's truly a gold coin, charming in the way that he's someone that you made my heart beat a different rhythm for and my heart cannot become any more full of adoration because of that.

Now, when it comes to Namjoon, I will fully go out and say SSKSKAKAKAKAKKAKAL AAHHHHHHH!!!!! He could ruin my life and I'd say thank you. Okay, that's all for now.

And oh, Sehun, uhhh...what an ass! I already know that he’s going to pop back up somewhere spewing bullshit👀, but he's a character that I think is needed, and you did such a wonderful job setting him up in the story. He's someone that I love to hate, and I'm oddly grateful to have that connection to him in that way.

I'm kind of going a bit off the rails now because these are a few extra things that I noted, but when it came to this part:

"So does that mean you won't mind if I take tomorrow off?" You already knew his answer before he spoke, but you asked anyway to keep up pretenses. Most people in your company had to give at least two weeks advance notice for days they planned not to show up. But you and the three other account managers under Seokjin never had to worry about it. You couldn't count the times on your fingers that Seokjin had told you no because he never had.

“Well when you ask me so nicely, how could I possibly say no?” he responded, fingers already at his keyboard scheduling your time off in the system.

...How ironic. And this:

"I heard he took a vow of celibacy," Jihye said in disgust.

I’m biting my tongue😶.

And tell me why I thought that there was an actual kidnapping and that this fic was going to turn dark, but it was just Seokjin and his humor lol.

The card for Luxe is beautiful as well!! It reminds me of my playlist aesthetic and it even has the same name (kind of), but I was just so in awe with everything in the story that I couldn't slow myself down. I also listened to the song you recommended for this chapter, 9lives, and it is the perfect song for this. The lyrics, especially the intro, were a good setup to possibly foreshadowing what's going to happen next😉.

Last year, he had even headed a project to help local businesses fix their struggling budget books, saving countless small shop owners throughout the district.

And with luck on your side, after being hired into this proverbial den of wolves, you found yourself blessed with a boss whose kindness and good looks were only overshadowed by the trust the CEO seemed to have in him and the results he brought in for the company. Results you now had the pleasure of helping him bring in. And if anyone was more than pleased with making Seokjin happy, it was you.

You are truly, unfathomably strong. If he knows anything at all, he knows this.

The beginning of this part was a marker for epiphanies. It was like things were coming full circle again, not only in terms of the story itself but also in a broader scope.

You start off with:

Tonight, even as the king chooses to take the scenic route around to inspect the budding greenery of the trees and the aging architecture of the cluster of grand halls, all roads lead to you.

And this is where I had to stop and think-feel- for a little bit even though it was only the first paragraph. The establishing scenery and atmosphere immediately reminded me of April 1869, which is strange because that chapter was one of the darker ones, so it felt strange to automatically draw connection so soon and without any support. But the walk that was had and the memories of what was said didn't leave my mind until I realized why once I continued reading.

It's a juxtaposition between the Yoongi then and the Yoongi now. The way he carries himself and how he treats the main character is completely different from what it used to be. That moment which was catalyzed from the ladies' voices was almost as if he were looking at his past self in the mirror, and he acknowledges his faults done onto her from the past. If the past Yoongi were there, the scene would have most definitely played out differently, possibly with him ignoring them and continuing on his walk. But he's different now, and everyone knows it, which is why when he chooses to go to her, to run to her, the impact of his actions making it even more meaningful. The only other time I can say Yoongi had done something so impulsive when it came to the well-being of the main character was during the ambush of November 1869.

There was also the ode to the Tonight series that I found by accident, and it made me wonder, why start that way? What's the common theme between them? Well, like you said, the Tonight series is "a collection of short, smutty snippets that detail how you will spend that time with your man." However, this wasn't smutty at all. The exact opposite, if I must say. The anti-smut, if you will. But, there can be love outside of sex and intimacy outside of physical closeness. You don't have to be raw dogging someone (I'm sorry) to let them know that they mean a lot to you, and by simply willing and wanting to be in her presence to comfort her in the way that he knows how it just felt nice. Like another stone was being unturned in their relationship. (This part probably doesn't even mean that much. I'm just letting my brain...brain, so I'm sorry.)

Also, may I add something? The last part, "the thank yous" In a way, feels like he is talking to us. The readers, for believing in him. For staying with him for the past 31 parts, even when times were shaky and uncertain. And in a way, this might seem selfish or self-centered, but the very last sentence didn't feel as though it should be read and kept within the frames or confines of the story. It felt more than that, and it meant a lot to me for some weird reason which is why I highlighted it at the very top.

We read to not feel as though we're alone, so thank you for creating a space that makes it easier to breathe. Thank you so much, Rain for this part!! I can't wait to continue on💕🌙

P.S.- (I also thought that the reason why the main character was covering her stomach was because she was pregnant, and then it was mentioned in passing by one of the ladies....are you foreshadowing something, Rain😳???? Because if you are, I don't think I'm going to be able to take it)

He breaks into a grin at the word, instantly taking years off his face and making him look just like the boy you first met in school. If someone had told past-you that the clumsy, nerdy kid you were paired with in chemistry class would one day be your dearest friend, you wouldn’t have believed a word of it. 

And yet, it happened. Over the year, over shared Bunsen burners and ruined titrations, he wormed his way into your heart and set up shop there as something unbelievably precious. Now there are years and years of shared history: college parties and the accompanying bad choices, the celebratory dinner he treated you to when you landed your first real job, the sympathy flowers he sent you when you had your first real heartbreak.

And so you dance together in celebration of exploding lightbulbs. And so you dance together in celebration of living together. And so you dance together and around each other and it becomes a game...

Honestly, the section that I highlighted and the rest of the paragraph following is my favorite part of this chapter. It's so beautiful, and it holds this tumbling feeling of yearning and love swirling around and around again. It was overwhelming to read but in the best of ways because it feels like this is the first moment to see how much they enjoy each other. How much their existence means to one another even though they cannot tangibly be there for one another. But they try, and they find ways out of seemingly no way to close the gap between living and what it means to live.

One thing that stuck out to me was that the main character cannot remember her past before Taehyung because this phenomenon can overlap into many different realities. Even though she's dead and can't remember that past, he was the first person who made her experience genuine and unadulterated happiness. This will sound cheesy, but that's how it felt when I first joined the fandom. Of course, I remember my previous interests, the way I fangirled over Shawn Mendes, but the happiness that has come after made my previous infatuations feel dim in comparison to now. I guess it’s just a natural instinct to be on the search for more, especially when experiencing feelings like joy. It’s like what I always say, why eat a Jolly Rancher when you can have a five-tier chocolate cake? Of course the Jolly Rancher is good, but it can’t compare to a chocolate cake (unless you don’t like chocolate, of course). So why spend time settling for something that doesn't make you as happy like it is now. Light cancels shadows, and eventually, you the feeling of what was once there is infinitesimal.

Also, I smiled a little about the note about period cramps and pain (I just realized that she never has to experience what it's like to stub her toe on a corner, so I'm jealous). You also made me a bit hungry with the baked bread part because I LOVE baked bread. One thing that I'm curious about though is if maybe one day the main character will see other ghosts? I can imagine that it could eventually end up being a bit lonely to not see someone else like her even though she has Tae to keep her company, so it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the story unfolds. And the part about her being able to sleep/sleepwalk was cool (I wonder if she can dream...Can ghosts dream? Is that a thing?? I think I’m getting ahead of myself haha)

Overall, I really loved this part. I just hope that Taehyung and the main character will be able to touch each other one day. Even if it's only for a second and even if it may be by accident, I hope that they can. Taehyung makes her live. Breaks down the barrier between them and gives her life outside of life, and I think that's really beautiful, so I hope that they can show each other that more physically and intimately.
