I've never understood people who hate Malleus because "his entire personality is being player fanservice" like no, his thing is exploring different kinds of relationships. His main thing is showing/reminding us how it feels to navigate relationships when we didn't properly know how to; blood family, foster family, acquaintances, friends, even rivals. Romantic interest if you consider it as such. He is someone trying to figure out the differences between such bonds and realizing how equally important each one is.

If their basis for concluding he's "only player fanservice" is because the community particularly likes that one facet of him, they should take time to read the story for themselves rather than base their knowledge on other people's preferences.

Random side note:

Many fans are actually well aware of a character's entire personality, but just prefer to talk about what makes them happiest. Because they think (and rightfully so!) that this is the best use of their time. This does not mean that's the only thing a character has going for them.

Just randomly bringing up this topic because you always find it in "unpopular twst opinions" threads. While there's nothing wrong with having an opinion, there is more often than not a counter-argument to it. Whether they accept it or not objectively is up to them.
