oooo i love your killer's substance use headcanon!! i think that, considering canon sans is implied to be an alcoholic (he drinks ketchup, but i think we all know it's the pg version of alcohol lol, and he's a frequent at grillby's bar), killer might subconsciously try to distance himself from that too. what if drinking brings some sense of deja vu?

seeing that murder still views himself as "sans", it's natural he retains his alcoholic trait, maybe even worsening it. i have my own headcanon that murder absolutely abuses the hell out of substances to deal with his jitters and hallucinations. he keeps saying that he'll quit when the job (ending the resets) is done, but will he? the substances are in a way just like the rush of violence and lv to him. he's very messy, very "sans"-like in his coping mechanism. i think thematically, it kinda plays nice into how killer and murder each copes with their identity crisis ^_^

Now I’m gonna be honest that I was probably one of the only few who didn’t catch on to the possibility of the ketchup being the pg version of alcohol.

I thought it was just one of those funny recurring gags that fictional characters sometimes have in video games and shows, especially characters like sans who do things like break fourth wall sometimes and shortcuts.

But thinking about it now in the context of how killer avoids ketchup is an interesting thought. Likely something he’d possibly avoid, whereas murder finds his comfort in it, those old habits. Perhaps even tipping further into it then sans/he ever did before. Have a lotta thoughts about it that I can’t quite workshop into words at the moment.

Back in like early middle school when dust was still a confused cis gender he was friends with fell and they were like best friends

They would sneak out and go do drugs and shit to get away from their parents

Dust getting away from his dad wnd fell getting away from his mom and dad

Fell was like the one thing keeping dust sane while he goes through his gender crisis and his dad’s abuse and his family issues before they all stopped breathing permanently

They’re at their usual hang out spot and fell is like acting strange and dust(not currently going by dust but simplicity) asks him what’s wrong

“[deadname], we’re moving.”

“Oh! You found a new house in the neighborhood?”

“…we’re moving to the city.”

And it was absolutely like heartbreaking to dust and he just tried to play it off like everything was alright and watched him go (THEN DUST’S LIFE WENT TO SHIT WOOOOOO)

Years later, they (accidentally) reunite in high school (coincidentally dust had to move to the same city for foster care)

Fell is completely unaware that dust ended up being trans in the time they didn’t see each other and he rushes up to dust and (also accidentally) starts deadnaming him in like the middle of the hall in front of everyone and he gets so confused when dust panics and tells him to shut up and how much he hates being touched now

Dust has no idea how to tell fell that he’s dust now instead of who he knew him as because he hadn’t had to do that to anyone since nobody knew him when he entered the foster system and he could just introduce himself as dust

He’d probably freak out and go hide in the girls bathroom (he doesn’t feel too welcomed in the men’s when tampon and pad dispensers are destroyed and vandalized (it’s an issue at my school after they put them in the boys bathroom))

Fell goes up to people asking where [deadname] is and they’re all just really confused because there’s a few people with that name but like. Nobody knows a [deadname] with dust’s last name. “Dust doesn’t have a little sister.” And they just walk away until he eventually stumbles upon killer and horror

After some 20 questions they start to realize the situation and killer and horror are trying to process the fact that now they know dusts deadname (they didn’t want to) and the fact that they also have to tell him that dust is trans now

Fell obviously feels bad and after some more questions they find the bathroom dust is in and killer gets on his knees in front of lust (trans mtf) and begs her to coax dust out of the bathroom so they can get everything sorted out because none of them can go in there without getting shit thrown at them except for lust (lust and dust are probably trans buddies so they get along (dust used to tell her if she wasn’t already lucky enough to get surgery he would’ve given her his boobs and shit))
