The coffin thing is so funny because I think they really do both just shed all their brain cells around each other. I don't think either of them were secretly scheming to be squished into a small space together. They just built a default coffin on autopilot and they were both too afflicted by Hanging Out With Crush Disease to think that through. And then they both got to experience Oh Gods What Did I Get Myself Into. I really like to think that Pei Ming going "why didn't you just build a bigger one?" is the first time that option actually occurred to either of them and there is something uproariously funny about brilliant smart-mouthed Hua Cheng, who can absolutely crush civil gods in debate, standing there bedraggled and drenched with seaweed and sand in his fancy super-realistic hair, presumably magicking his raging boner down, internally screaming WHY DIDN'T WE JUST BUILD A BIGGER COFFIN?!?! and outwardly going "how about you kill yourself?"

I think, on some level, that Shen Yuan is like enrichment for Airplane Bro's enclosure. I think Airplane Bro kind of fucking LOVES having this guy around. Like, I do think their relationship is nuanced, weird and full of contradictions and not always good for them, but I also think that some chaotic part of Shang Qinghua honestly likes having his #1 hater weirdo running around completely fucking up his world.

Shen Qingqiu, grabbing Shang Qinghua by the shoulders: "Why didn't anyone TELL ME that Binghe is GAY NOW?! I'm going to die because of MONSTER DICK?!?!?!"

Shang Qinghua: (internally, probably only half-consciously) "Incredible. Amazing. How did I live without you? You torture me with your bullshit. You complete me in every possible way. I just imagine so many fourth wall breaks. Transmigrators are the only ones aware of the audience and Shen Yuan (Shen Qingqiu) constantly steps aside, makes comments and asks the audience for advice.

In canon Shen Yuan somewhat aware that he is in a story that people read and it means he is constantly "watched", but here this feeling that he is watched and all his actions are judged would be even more obvious and stronger.

And him not really seeing others as real people becomes even more understandable. They don't see the audience, they don't realize they are in a story, they are just characters, not actors.

I just feel like this format could really ameliorate some of the elements of the story
